New Leaders – Understanding Scout Facing or Backstage

Cub Scout Packs recruit leaders from the parents. Troops get leaders crossing over from Packs with their Scouts. Packs are organized and run by adult leaders. Troops are “Youth Lead” and the adult leadership is there to give guidance and structure. In scouting, we have two sides to adult leadership. Cub Masters, Den Leaders, and Scoutmasters are “Scout Facing” Leaders. The larger and as important leadership is going on backstage. Committee members and charter organization representatives (COR’s) for Pakes and Troops are a critical role for adults. There is a place for everyone, no matter their commitment level.

So I'm part of a pack I'm the leader of a den and so is my wife. There has become a lot of infighting about rules and Authority. I've recently discovered that all of these things are written down very clearly. I'm starting to see in fighting and a destruction of our Pact because we have not agreed that the Boy Scout rules put forth in the guide are what we are going to follow. I think this is going to ultimately lead to a failure in the pack. I have decided to give an ultimatum that we follow these rules or we will discontinue our participation. Both our boy scout representative and our pack leader don't seem to want to take a leadership roll what are your thoughts?
