I went through Cav OSUT 6 yeas ago. Great job to have in the Army for sure. Your PLT is small (18-20 people) and you get to play w lots of weapons. I miss being a scout. Good luck to those going in.. don’t quit

All jokes aside, The cav scouts are invaluable to the mission and standards of operation. And we are all brothers and sisters in arms and it's all camaraderie and we're just giving each other a hard time

Attention to small details, learning body language, learning how to kill very quickly, learn a shit ton of self and noise discipline, learning how to read and make maps, and the list goes on. 7th calvary scout here Garry Owen.

one of the cav scout requirements is that you have to be one of those JROTC kids who took it too seriously and was a bit too interested in joining the army

In the Marine corps we have Light Armored Recon (LAR) they’re a mechanized reconnaissance asset; they have the same mission as Calvary scouts do in the army. They are infantryman who receive an additional MOS, instead of 0311, they are 0313.

Idk why infantry always rags on Cav scouts, the one cav scout I knew was a macho guy. He went on two deployments in Iraq, was shot and he was in about 5 IED attacks (mounted), he also stole a humvee and went to McDs on his return trip home (not sure what base he went back to).

When you can't make it as an airborne infantryman you do this and tell the folks back home you're in a "top secret hard core unit".

24 years retired 19D. Depending on the unit, the Brigade Commanders can utilize their Scouts the right way or the infantry way. But be prepared to train as a scout and as infantry.
