What's the difference between a courageous & a difficult conversation?

Let’s talk about the difference between a difficult conversation and a courageous one.

They both require courage. It’s almost like courageous is an umbrella and difficult is an off-shoot!

The courage to have these kinds of conversation comes from within, but it’s paired with the ability to take that action and decide “I’m going to have this conversation. It will require courage from me, but I’m going to do it anyway.”

How do we handle the undermining thoughts and fears we may have around these types of conversations?

The first step is to recognize the emotion around it. Our feelings are powerful! If we don’t acknowledge them, they’re going to come out in different ways — difficulties and stress levels will continue to rise.

Second, take a moment to stop, pause, and take an inventory of what’s going on in your body. What emotion are you feeling? Where are you feeling it? When you’re able to recognize and attune to these feelings, you’ll be in a space where you can begin to regulate these feelings.

Once you’ve acknowledged your emotions, you can begin to bring down and relax your nervous system to help alleviate some of these feelings of fear and stress.
