Why doesn't subaru tell people about return by death/ Why doesn't he just write it down on a piece of paper or tell reinhard that he can return by death? In this video i talk about the taboo and its purpose - to potentially save subaru.

Re: Zero is one of the most interesting isekai anime that has come out in the past few years. The story revolves around Natsuki Subaru being transported from Earth to a new world and he is granted one simple power: "Return By Death". Subaru must use this newfound power to save those he cares about, such as Emilia, Rem, Ram, Petra, Otto and Garfiel and more.

Who is Satella and why did she grant subaru this power? What is the motivation behind the witch cult which have members such as Petelguese the sin archbishop of sloth? These are some of the questions I'll tackle on this channel, I hope you enjoy it and most importantly also enjoy season 1 and season 2 of Re: zero and hopefully it does well enough to warrant a third season covering arc 5 (Season 3 re: zero).

Here's how Satella is protecting Subaru: Can you imagine if Elsa the Gut woman found out about Return by Death? Subaru wouldn't be allowed to die, just live in agony.

I think why Satella doesn't let Subaru telling about Return by death is because she wants protecting him, like you. But she protects him for an another case. The reason is the Lugunican Government. Yeah, imagine if the government knows that Subaru has RbD, their first thoughts will be Subaru is a Sin Archbishop, or, related to the Witch. They'll demand his death, or his arrest, to be questioned. And Subaru won't have a funny time, if that should happen.

My guess on "Satellas" or the witch of envy's behaviour when Subaru tries to convey "Return By Death" is that the personality created from the envy witch factor is literally just feeling envious towards everyone that is close enough to her beloved one that he/she knows about the secret she shares with Subaru. The Envy personality probably wants no one to have the same bond she thinks she has with Subaru throughout all loops. That would explain her reaction to Rui/Louis Arneb in Arc 6 when the sin archbishop was able to understand everything Subaru has been through excluding the emotional trauma.

Omg I never even thought about what if Roswall knows about return by death. It would cause a lot of problems

He involuntarily implies it a lot, for example in Arc 4 when he told Beatrice that because of her fault to her "this present could be set in stone"

Satella is not the one stopping him/protecting him from speaking about RBD (most likely.) In arc 4 Subaru (after the second trial) is thinking about his conversation with Satella and comes to t he conclusion that she is not the one stopping him from speaking about the authority, since that would contradict everything she just told him. It's instead the witch of envy who doesn't want him to tell anyone (probably because she doesn't want anyone else to be able to speak to him about it, given she is the witch of envy and would obviously be envious of anyone who could talk with him about the power Satella gave him, but can't herself speak to him whenever she wants).

What if Subaru tells people an abridged version of his power?

Goes kind of like this: "My name is Natsuki Subaru. I'm 17 years old. My room is in the northeast section of Roswaal's manor, where all the servants are, and I am not married. I work as an employee Roswaal L Mathers' manor, and I get free every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone."

Couldn't he just explain his ability as having some sort of random future seeing moments? It would help others understand how he suddenly knows things he isn't supposed to know.

I feel like Suburu could circumvent this by simply saying he can see into possible futures at times which is how he can predict that certain things can happen.

If someone like Elsa found out about Subaru’s return by death it would be over for him. His ability doesn’t protect him from the pain of dying it just means after it’s all over he comes back. Case in point the great rabbit death. A serial killer like Elsa would love a victim that can be killed in so many different ways.

He could say he has a weak form of premonition, that could explain a lot already. If he dares, he could explain further that he knows all that happened until a point cant be undone, but whatever is happening now he cannot say if is real or is his "premonition" working.
