People don’t pay tuition for the education. The pay tuition for the accreditation.

Fun fact: publicly run Universities in Switzerland will actually allow anyone to sit in most classes. You won't get the piece of paper that says you did, but they are institutions fundamentally meant to educate the public.

Going to college made me realize how easily it is just to walk in a class and take a whole lecture

It's called auditing a class and most professors and universities are completely fine with it, as long as you aren't takimg seats from students in a packed class

As a blue-collar technician, I was always dreaming of an engineering job. Started watching MIT lectures online ~2004. The right opportunity came in 2007 ->> got a base level application engineer job for an automation company and everything took off from there. Became mechanical engineering manager, product manager and now chill out in my 50's as a sales engineer in a different company that does test / measurement equipment. Now regularly work with companies that do some amazing things!!

You can walk into any class and learn at any time, you just won’t end up with a degree. Students aren’t paying to learn, they’re paying to get a piece of paper.

A lot of college professors will let you AUDIT their classes LEGALLY if you just ask. They won't grade your homework, and you won't get a grade. But you will get to participate in the classroom lectures and discussions. Some of them require you to be an enrolled student or campus employee, but a lot of them just appreciate that you want to learn and you don't care about the final grade or certifications involved in the paid version of the class. So a lot of them will let you sit in and learn as long as you don't make any extra work for them, even if you're not actually a college student or campus employee.

Getting credits is often confused with having skills. A person can gain skills by merely paying attention or by slowly refining a skill. A good teacher can be found anywhere and some of them only want your genuine enthusiasm and interest as paymen.

I love how you incorporate real-world examples into your tutorials. It makes learning so much easier!

As long as you can document your skills companies will be interested. It’s all a matter of showing you can actually do what they want. A degree is one way, job experience is another, or you can physically make projects and record or show them off, you can put it on your resume

This is absolutely true. The degree only says that you took a class and passed it. It doesn't mean you have the knowledge, skills, and experience you need to do a job. I have two degrees, but graduated with no experience. Now I have degrees and experience, but skills that aren't really marketable outside my field. That was my decision, I have to live with it or learn better skills.

The only thing is that you have to be able to prove your knowledge. An official degree shows that you actually took the classes and received a certain grade in them. But you can also do something like making your own portfolio of work to show your skills. It might just a be a bit harder to prove yourself without the official piece of paper
