My headcannon for bedrock is that it's made up of corpses and skeletons of those who died by falling into the lava under the bedrock.
According to the official Minecraft Blockpidea: there used to be a layer of lava under bedrock. Quote: "During early development of the game, there was a sea of lava beneath the lowest level of bedrock"
It makes sense for the bedrock in the neather, too. Those who dropped onto the neather and/or died underneath had their souls ripped from them into the soulsand/soulsoil.
That's why there are faces and (possibly) other body parts in the bedrock texture because there are actual bodies in the rock.

1. What if that tiny soul was a monster or an entity that Mojang trapped in the bedrock because it was too dangerous. Or what if there were other wither storms that were trapped and never to be set free because they were trying warn someone or something.
2. The mushroom field - what if the moshroom cow's weren't the only peaceful mob that was in the mushroom field's.(Besides the bat and the Glow squid an other mobs that don't spawn on the island.)

My theory on the Mushroom Fields is that you can shear mushroom cows and they turn into normal ones, so the mushroom could be a fungi that grows on the cows and when another fungi like MOSS comes near the mushroom is alerted and scared so it's only option is to spread its seeds to reclaim the land and in the process it ends the cow like a bee losing it's stinger to protect the hive but dies in the end.
