I can see why they're no longer friends. This case is petty and kind of messed up. I've paid for my daughters friends meals lots of times never expecting anything in return. I feel bad for the defendant :(

She didn't have to keep saying she was struggling financially and that she couldn't afford such and such. I believe they looked down on her because she's not as financially healthy as they are. At the same time, don't go on trips you can't afford. Mixing money and friendships rarely ever works well.
