Dr. Phil is giving insight into the warped mind of cannibal killer Jeffrey Dahmer. His three-part special on the serial killer features a never-before-seen interview with Dahmer's father, Lionel. Dr. Phil's special comes in the wake of the Netflix series on the notorious killer, in which Lionel is shown introducing his young son to the art of taxidermy. The insinuation is that experimenting with dead animals at a vulnerable age may have triggered something in Jeffrey.

I have more sympathy for the victims and their families, but it's hard not to feel bad for Jeffrey's dad. I can't even imagine the pain, shame and embarrassment that man went through and is still going through. He will always be known as the father of a serial killer, that's his legacy. That's gotta be tough.

I really do feel for his dad. His father never stopped loving him nor did he disown him like probably most families would've done. Even though his son became an abomination, he never left his side. That's unconditional love.

I'm surprised Lionel is still alive. Not just because of his age but the stress and grief had to have taken a huge toll on his health.

Wow I remember when this happened in the 90s as a young woman and it's hard to believe it's been that long ago. I will never forget seeing this grieving sister of one of JDs victims. She was in the courtroom and felt so bad. Almost 3 decades later, her pain is still very visible. And those cops who let him take a 14 year old kid who was bleeding (after escaping from JD) and believing JD after telling cops that was his lover should have been fired.

Poor victims need time to heal, and constantly bringing this up, sometimes hurts even more

I'm surprised that they managed to find Rita. And she still feels the same pain in her soul. 💔

I can literally hear Jeffrey’s voice in his fathers voice- it’s clear to tell he took after his dad a lot, his way of speaking, mannerisms, kind of gravelly rasp- makes me shiver.

I can't stand Phil, but I would like to know if Jeff's dad ever ate at his home

Jeffrey’s dad seems so normal and I feel so bad for his family.

I feel really bad for Dahmer's father. Being around taxidermy does not automatically mess you up. I grew up with severed animal heads in the trees (my family let them decompose up there), and it didn't really have much of an affect on me. I have animal skulls and taxidermied animals in my house now, but man, I've never thought, "yo let's add some people to the mix."

I know that there's probably a lot of things that they can't release or say. The pain seems to still be very raw and real. I pray these victims & their families find peace.

We need an insight into Dr Phil's mind. Can Dr Phil do a show on Dr Phil?

Why not interview the victims family instead? We keep putting killers in the spotlight talking about information that has been said a million times

This movie demonstrated how his parents failed this man as a child. They ignored his growing problems then pushed him off on his grandmother.

Dang, his voice is identical to the Netflix series's

I used to dissect animals in my grandfathers shed. When my mother and grandmother found out they made somewhat of a big deal. They told me that wasn’t normal and they’re tendencies of someone who will eventually move on to bigger things. Thank god I never became a killer but I always think about that situation.

His father was once obsessed with murder as a teenager. Lap the way he answers in other interviews makes me feel like he’s not telling everything

I saw a post on Askreddit, where a class clown was told by Lionel to control himself. And fires back with "Like how you controlled your son."

The actor for the father sounds so much like the real father. I mean he got the inflection, cadence, everything so well
