Are There Fewer Serial Killers Today?

From TV dramas to documentaries, America has been frightened and fascinated by serial killers for decades. Years ago, hundreds of serial killers were thought to be active in the U.S. Now, many researchers say there are just a handful. Some reasons for the decline of serial killers include the presence of surveillance cameras and phone-tracking technology which is also making it easier for police to capture killers before they kill again. Inside Edition's Steven Fabian has more.

I was telling my wife this recently. It's got to be difficult with surveillance cameras, traffic cams, cell phones with GPS and microphones, google search history, digital information tracking, debit cards, purchase history, facial recognition, criminal databases and, of course, DNA.

It must be so hard to be a serial killer these days with all the modern technology that can get you caught.

Serial killers morphed into the Mass Shooter for our generation.

I don’t think the wife knew tbh, like the golden state killer, his wives and kids throughout it knew nothing. So why is she any different? My mom didn’t know my dad was cheating on her the whole marriage. It’s not that hard to hide if you have an innocent mind and think the best of people.

There's not fewer people inclined to being a serial killer. In fact, it would make sense that the number will only increase as the general population does. It's simply more difficult to get away with the 'serial' part than it used to be.

It's really disgusting how that lawyer tried to make it seem as if his wife is complicit in his crimes. What evidence does he have to make such a claim? What a disgrace of a "man."

The 70’s?! Yea right! I was born in 89 but grew up in the 90’s and my parents made us go play outside. 3 kids in a house can tire people out. My mom would get overwhelmed with us fighting. We had freedom growing up. Just glad nothin happened to us like that

Now it's time for modern Technology to find those serial killers from the 70's and 80's. There's no statues of limitations on murder!

Sometimes it's scary going at night alone and even jogging alone in the day. That's why I like jogging on treadmills and going out during the day.

Plus in the 1970s and 1980s businesses were not open 24 hours a day. They would shut down for the weekend or if there was a holiday where schools and banks were closed depending on where you lived.

I'm sorry but can we just take a moment to appreciate the fly personal style of John Ray at 2:06?

Don't bring In the wife of the gilgo beach killer. Poor lady has been out of the town while her fanatic killer husband did all the work alone geez the women is already facing many medical issues worrying her children shouldn't be one of them.

Whoa! Wait a min!!! The Btk serial killer also had family including a wife and was active for many years while he was married and had his family and none of them were ever involved. I think it’s very far-fetched to say that his wife should be a suspect!

I think being a serial killer doesn't pay as well as it once used to... and with the high price of student loans, potential serial killers really have to be conscious of their career choices. like, do you want to own a home someday or not? what's the joy in killling if you can't own a home due to crippling student loan debt... amirite?
