==What edition will you be using/trying and why?==

A review of the Cinnamon Edition of Linux Mint 14 Nadia. Overall, a very responsive and customizable user experience focused on Mint's user base of experienced computer users. It's fantastic to see Linux Mint become more and more independent from its big brother Ubuntu, as these distributions seem to have parted user bases.

I am currently trying to decide on a linux distro, and out of all of the reviews ive seen, yours has certainly been one of the most informative, to the point and well ranged ones ive come across.

EXCELLENT review! I got all the information I was looking for in less than 8 minutes and in a no-bullshit review. I am now confident about my upgrade and looking forward to all the new features. Thanks.

Thanks for your review which swayed me to switch from Windows to Linux. I have been running Mint 14 for 2 months and loving it but was unable to install it on an SSD RAID0 array so have opted for Ubuntu 12.10 with cinnamon-stable which works well on my RAID. As well I bought a laptop and have been installing Ubuntu 13.04 Raring and Cinnamon nightlies so I can see where Cinnamon is going with improvements to Nemo and the menu. Thanks again.

Excellent review! You continue to use relevant language and articulate properly helps a great deal to understanding and learning for us, who dont have English as our first language. Please remember that always and we'll be thankful for your consideration. Thank you very much for your efforts. Take care!

My current box can not run cinnamon, but when I finish building my new computer, I am definitely going back to mint and going with cinnamon. Thanx for the review.

I recommend you to try them both. Besides that, I also recommend you Linux Mint Cinnamon (the edition reviewed). It's much more Windows-like, and also easier to newbies because you don't have to care about codecs, flash, etc.

I will keep using my Ubuntu 12.04 for a while but later I will upgrade my Windows 7 Pro Laptop to Linux Mint. The computer is so slow it go 70% CPU when you open the taskmanager! Great videos btw!

Agreed. Just a little more customizations would be nice. I do understand that by restricting most customization they are trying to keep the desktop nice and polished, but there are some basic customizations that I'd like to have, like changing keyboard shortcuts for the window manager, that just aren't present.

We'll have to wait and see until the final release comes out I suppose.

I LOVE the customisation features on Linux Mint. It's everything I wanted Windows to have with the theme system. And overall this is THE FASTEST OS I have ever used. I might have to make it my primary non-gaming OS.

It is customizable, you just need to have the know-how to do so. One of the goals of the project (they've said so on numerous forums) is to provide sane default settings out-of-the-box combined with a few extra options so the user can just boot up and go with minimal fiddling around, and in the process avoid inexperienced users breaking the system. You can change a wide variety of settings using dconf editor.

Longtime Ubuntu Linux user here. Mint 14 Cinnamon is optimal on my laptops and desktops. Stable, fast, simple, and polished. The Debian package manager Apt is light years ahead of any other. (just ask Google). Desktop environment independence is very important - thanks for the freedom!

The fact windows 7 made burning pictures to a DVD a pain in the ass, something that I used to do so easy on WinXP, Was the last straw for me.

Thank you for your time.

I remember it as clear as day. My Windows Vista update hung (as planned by Microsoft) and I couldn't get past it. Pis$ed me right off. MS had screwed me. Having heard about Linux, I installed Mint 14 and haven't looked back since. 2012 that was, 2021 now, I run an Archlinux Openbox setup with a juiced up emacs config and am happy as a pig in sh1t :D Switching to Gnu/Linux was the best decision I ever made. I'm just annoyed that I spent so wasted years as a Microsoft Windows subjugate. '95 to '12 it was :( wasted years I'll never get back. RJS and LT may not be the best of buddies, but together they have given Gnu/Linux users a utopia in modern computing, an antidote to the money grabbing, user subjugating, control freakery that IS Microsoft Windows! Free yourself. Have the confidence to do it. Ditch Windows and embrace the wonderful world of Gnu/Linux. You won't regret it!

Well I prefer your videos over Nixies. As much as I like her, half the time you can't hear what she is talking about when she does the screen capture. Your voice is clean and clear, and you explain everything very throughly!
