From my experience, solid/plain color filament doesn't vary in print quality much. Meaning cost isn't much of a factor. However, it's when you get into the metallics and other special tones that quality suffers when buying cheaper.

Try a cheap silver filament from Ebay vs Hatchbox Silk Silver. In my case, that Ebay filament printed out more grey and not shiny. The Hatchbox prints out convincingly.

BTW, Zyltech filaments are now $13.85 for most of their filaments (PLA). The only problem I have with them is they are out of stock a lot lately.

I've discovered that the accuracy really impacts the print. With a 10mm accuracy you get under extrution but with a 2mm accuray, the print came out beautiful

I have been 3d printing for over 4 years and have used many many different filaments from cheap yo premium. In my experience, you can get really good looking prints from cheap filament, but it doesnt have the consistancy that the more primium filaments do. Recently i went to mave one of the larger figures i had printed a few years ago. As soon as i picked it up, his foot fell of (ankle joint broke, sunlu pla plus filament). I have also had onther multiple year ild models with cheaper filament that have broken for no apparent reason. None of the higher quality filament has done this

for those who don't know much about auto-focus the camera is programmed to focus on areas of high contrast. If you're wearing black and you're in the frame your shirt will compete with your subject matter that you are trying to focus on. the palm behind the subject matter would have worked if his palm hid all the black.

I got some fillamentum rolls a month ago and I just love that noble blue. Luckily I am in the EU so we can get it much cheaper.

the strong hero stuff i got was dirty, tangled and seemed lumpy under the light. and was extremely brittle out of the box..

Just gonna put this out there... For focus on a fixed point like you are using with the close up camera manual focus is your friend

I have read that cheap (less than $20 USD) filaments may have bad quality like have "dust" and probably plug your printer?? Is it true in the long run???

The beauty of Inland filament is that you can walk into a Microcenter and just grab a roll. They also have a ton of colors and there is PLA+, PETG and PETG+ all at what I think very competitive prices (see micocenter’s website for pricing)
Do you think tweaking the setting for the inland PLA might give you better results?

I'm on a fixed income, so far i found some really good and wasteful trash filaments under $20. i have uses AMOLEN sparkly filament 200g rolls for special projects.

This was actually really informative and validated a lot of my thoughts on the issue as well. One thing that isn't accounted for, and I would be curious to learn, is the pigment stability and resistance to fading over time. The same test could be done with filament strength as well. Overall though, great job. Maybe get a slightly better camera and some studio lighting, and you'll go places.

I'd rather see you compare things like shrinkage strength and stiffness. I am not interested in the appearance of a filament.
