WATCH: The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday, June 19, released a more elaborate video of Chinese Coast Guard’s recent harassment against the Philippine Navy soldiers conducting a rotation and resupply mission at the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal on Monday, June 17.
Despite being outnumbered, the Filipino troops displayed valiant effort to defend their position and remain committed to upholding international law and peace.
“We saw in video how the Chinese even threatened our personnel but pointing their knives despite this, lumaban po ang ating mga sundalo, lumaban with their bare hands. Makikita ninyo po, tinutulak nila iyong RHIB [rigid-hull inflatable boat] ng Chinese Coast Guard palabas. Palayo. They were preventing the Chinese Coast Guard from hitting them,” AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. said during a visit to the headquarters of Western Command in Palawan on June 19.
“For me this is piracy. Piracy because they boarded our boats illegally. They got our equipment. Again, parang mga pirata na po sila sa mga ginawa nilang actions dito,” he added.
Despite the incident, General Brawner said the mission will still continue.
“That is our obligation and that is our right. We will not leave Ayungin Shoal,” he concluded. - MNP
