I have no idea what's happening here, but I'll never forget

That looks like a Korky synthetic rubber flapper. They last darn near forever compared to the original black rubber parts. Also, that is NOT the same as the hard plastic that much of the other plumbing parts are made of which get brittle and crack with age.

Whenever I put together J-traps or P-traps, I use the green or red synthetic o-rings. They cost several times what the black ones cost, but are softer, seal better, and don't dry out and crack like the black.

Fabuloso weren't designed for toilet tanks. Because of this, Apartment Therapy warns that the potent chemicals can damage parts made of plastic and rubber, like seals and gaskets, so leaks are more likely.

Right but were you opening the flaps multiple times a day? I believe its from the residue getting in the seal of the flap

Is it okay to add water to dilute Fabuloso?

The real problem is your breathing in chemical filled air as the cleaner filled water off-gases.

Honestly who gives a crap, flappers cost less than 5$
I'd rather have a nice smelling toilet and poo bubbles than spend 5$ on a flapper annually.
Really informative experiment Roger keep up the good work!!!!
