Great video, need more like this showing what can be gained by a little bit of work. I've refinished my 2nd hand irons. And look and feel brand new! Learned how to regrip on my own and also can refinish the heads. Little sweat equity and feel good about it all.

The only new club in my bag is my putter. Everything else, from driver to wedges I bought second hand ( demo or used) and only some of them needed regripping. So if you don’t want to enter this insane pricing carousel have a look at eBay or other platforms selling second hand clubs. Great advice Matt, thank you.

It also says how important it is to look after your own clubs, cleaning grooves and renewing grips! Great video!

Great value in this video. I found a company in the UK that re-chromed a set of MP32 for me at a cost at 25 gbp per club. Looks brand new and won’t start to rust.

I'm a new golfer. Got 3x second hand wedges. 2 x Mizuno and 1 x Cleveland wedge for approx £75. My sand wedge "has won 8 masters !" according to my local pro, so a bargain at £25. Awaiting my gap and lob wedges, which I shall bathe in Rola Cola, regrip, and regroove. Thanks for the video Matt it's been a great inspiration. If my handicap ever tumbles to the low teens, that I may get fitted clubs, but until then I've still got premium second hand clubs that perform great for me. Cheers

I am all for sustainability and exending the lifespan of my clubs. As well as the DIY option, the availability to service clubs, particularly wedges, should be promoted. Thanks Matt.

I actually got an old wedge from a friend with a rubber grip similar to the one you had and I used a little 220 sand paper to rough it up an take the slickness off it worked pretty good was able to use it for most of the season before I changed the grip

Nice one Matt, it was a great idea to do this video, it shows it not all about the latest tech. We are lucky in the UK to have some great YouTubers and you are definitely one of them. Through physical ill health I'm unable to play but watching yours, Pete's and ricks channels I still feel in touch with the game.

That so called "old wedge" is 8 years newer than mine. I have a Vokey wedge built before the SM identifiers. I do clean it from time to time, but living in southern California, rust is less of a problem. I do need to replace it someday and with full shots I don't seem to get the yardage I use to, but of course I am older too. If I find a wedge that is less than 2 years old I'm sure there will be enough life left in it for me.

Enjoyed video Matt! Try wiping down grip with towel, dish soap, warm water. Works wonders on most old clubs I purchased.

THANK YOU MATT !! I’ve started to referb and customize clubs for people. 3 new Vokey wedges in the USA $540.00 or 3 grips ($25) and 1-2 hours of love on the bench ($75max) Total = $100 Savings = $440 and the player still has a familiar club in their hands. Thanks for the great videos !

Great idea. You should do a walk through of your simulator room! Looks pretty finished now

Great video Matt, I just picked up a used 50° and regripped it, works great! Important to note that you bought the worst you could find. $45 went along way for me on a club only a couple years old.

This was my plan this season. But I lucked into a gently used SM6 for $30. So far the grip is good, but might spend the $7 & re-grip it.
I think I would have left the club in the vise while sharpening those grooves though. Great vid Matt, thanks!!

Great video, I did the very same thing with an old Cleveland wedge I got for Christmas. But instead of cheap cola I used a bench grinder to get the club almost pristine. I would love to see more on refurbishment and find out of more DIY methods of extending the life of golf clubs. Keep up the great content!

I love it. I actually just dropped off my wedges at the local pro shop for new grips, because they were shiny and done. My wedges are the original spin milled vokeys. I guess you would say SM1 even though they don't say that. My wedges are still awesome. The 52* shows the most wear on the grooves simply because it sees more full shots than the other 2. If your 60* wedge doesn't generally see a lot of full shots it should certainly last you a long time. My 56* sees more fuller shots than the 60* does but they are still partial shots by comparison to the 52* wedge. With that said it looks used but in great shape. The micro milling marks are still visible on my 60* and 56*. The 52* they are long gone, so that will need replaced sooner. All 3 wedges are about 10 years old or so. I did generally stop playing for about 7 years or so. Last summer I was bit again and I've been like a man on fire practicing and rebuilding my game. When I quit I was like 3 handicap. At the start of my return I was probably like a 15 or so. I feel like I'm back down to a 7 or 8 again with the plans and desire to get it into the plus category this year. Practicing more efficiently with a more attainable goal in mind I feel makes a big difference.

I have been thinking of buying some new wedges but I don't have time to play golf nearly as much as I would like to warrant buying brand new clubs. So something like this is a really good idea if I can find exactly what I'm looking for in the second market.

I found 3 of these wedges in the same condition in a skip bin at my local club. 2 60s and a 52, all perform brilliantly, might look at regrouping them though.

Great video. Would love to see more videos like this. Golf can be expensive, so to get a vokey for £27 is amazing.

I've had my current sand wedge for 20 years. Lower grooves a bit worn and the grip is looking a bit shiny/tatty....but it gets me up and down 4 or 5 times a round (New one on order, will probably arrive in another 20 years).
