It’s nice to see someone who knows how to make a “how to” video. 4 minutes is all it took. I can’t stand when people make a 30 minute video filled with useless talking and over explaining and all the story telling. Drives me nuts

Scotty's video editing make things look soo easy but in reality it's pain in the ass to get the job done.

Scotty, I run to you whenever I hear, see, smell or feel something's wrong. Thank you. I like knowing before going to a mechanic. You are a true friend in my head.

You have to vacuum the system any time it's opened to the air, as air in the system will wreck the pressure whether it has moisture in it or not.

Thank you for showing me why it was a good move to take my car to the mechanic.

your video just saved me $900. the mechanic wanted 600 for the compressor, $100/lb for R12 (my car takes 3lbs 4oz). plus labor and checking for leaks. i found a remanufactured compressor for 200, no cost for R12 bc my uncle had it, and it was $100 for tools (manifold gauges, etc). all together every thing cost me about $300. If i am ever down by you in Houston, i owe you a drink

compressor clutches only need positive power to run, and negative ground to ground the clutch so it works. Other wires are sensor wires, you can normally just bypass them. Or, if you don't want to do that, get the correctly made replacement one, you got a cheaply built one, see that a lot with the chinese made ones.

Great video, Scotty. I just had my ac compressor burn out. There was smoke coming from the engine on the passenger side and through the air vents. Took it to firestone. The original compressor had a lot of charred stuff coming out from the sides and the pulley wouldn't turn. They put in a new one. They did everything you mentioned that needed to be repaired or replaced to make it functional again. A friend suggested a pulley kit to attach to the alternator and crank shaft. Decided to repair it all at once. I would've eventually had to add that ac compressor back, summer is a coming. Took over 4 hours. All good. Cost just under $1000. Drove car, 1996 toyota camry LE with a v6 engine, home. That was about a one hundred mile trip. Worked great. Wish I was closer to home to try to get help from a neighbor to replace it.

depends on what was wrong originally. Of course replacing all the parts will always work, but that may be wasting money. I'd try the compressor, the drier, and the expansion valve myself.

@MyCoolAimName1 I used to on CBS, but they ran out of money. I now do it here, and am much happier. I can tell the total truth here. Scotty

I'm a single mom of 4. So paying someone to replace my compressor would have put a big dent in my budget. Thanks to this video I was able to do it myself

@kd25510 cause the inside drives the compressor, the outside only is driven by the pulley. the inside only works when it gets electrical power. Scotty

you use pag oil, and put in maybe 4 or 5 ounces, depending upon the vehicle. See your maker's suggestion at ac oil amount and use that

pag oil, all auto parts stores sell em. But prices vary widely from 60 to 250 bucks plus parts for that work, call around in your area.

you can use them on orifice tube systems as most american cars have, but they tend to clog up expansion valve systems
