▶️▶️ Evaporative Emission Control System or EVAP can be really Tricky. I'm going to show you how to get your EVAP monitor ready and give you some great tips along the way.

What is the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) System? The Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) System seals the fuel system of the vehicle in order to prevent fuel vapors from the fuel tank and fuel system from escaping into the atmosphere.

EVAP System Components
The major components of the EVAP system are:
Fuel Tank: The fuel tank obviously stores the gasoline when you fill up. But, you know when people tell you not to continue filling the tank after the pump automatically stops? That is because the tank has some expansion space at the top so the fuel can expand without overflowing or forcing the EVAP system to leak.
Gas Cap: Tighten until click. The gas cap seals off the filler neck of the gas tank from the outside atmoshpere. Damaged or missing gas caps are the most common cause of EVAP system failure codes that trigger the check engine light.
Liquid-Vapor Separator: This prevents liquid gasoline from entering the EVAP canister.
EVAP Canister: This canister is connected to the fuel tank by the tank vent line. The EVAP canister houses 1-2 pounds of activated charcoal that acts like a sponge by absorbing and storing fuel vapors until the purge valve opens and allows the vacuum of the engine intake to siphon the fuel vapors from the charcoal into the engine intake manifold.
Vent Control Valve: This allows the flow of the fuel vapors from the fuel tank into the EVAP canister.
Purge Valve/Sensor: Allows engine intake vacuum to siphon the precise amount of fuel vapors from the EVAP canister into the engine intake manifold.
Vent Hoses: The means by which the fuel vapors flow to different components of the EVAP system.
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: Monitors the pressure within the fuel tank for leaks and to make sure too much pressure does not build.
Fuel Level Sensor: Monitors the level of fuel.

So keep gas between quarter tank and 3/4 and check gas cap to make sure seal not corroded or dry. Skip to 4:00

You could have saved me 6 minutes of my life and simply said that you can still get smogged without EVAP clearing.

I recently passed emissions inspection in NJ with EVAP not ready. Look online for requirements needed for your state.

I have a 2008 Chevy Impala and everything passed except for the evaporative system, and oxygen sensor.. My car was sitting for 1 1/2 years because I needed the transmission rebuilt.. Had it rebuilt 3 weeks ago and haven't drove it much because I dont have tags.. Took it today to get smogged, and the tech told me I didn't pass because I needed to drive the car more.. Any tips?

I think I just gotta wait more. But FYI everyone in California All monitors have to pass with the exception of EVAP. just called the smog tech to verify. I passed smog with evap monitor not being excepted.

Will EVAP (INC) be a problem in Georgia for a 2008?

Very helpful. I am getting this Evap X on my scanner and I learned from your video that an easy fix might be to replace the gas cap. My car is 16 years old so that is the first thing I am going to do. Thanks for posting.

If you have $80 replace pump solenoid and the vapor filter and rubber hoses that will fix the problem on all dodges just so you know

If EVAP is not ready, does the Canister have to be visually present to pass? or can it be completely deleted?

I just randomly checked my system with the Monitor and the only thing that shows up is evap not ready everything else is ready. Why am I not getting a check engine light though?
