Having a great travel credit card could be the difference between getting free flights and travel or completely missing out. So what makes a great travel card. Well for starters, it needs to earn you either points or miles which can be redeemed for travel. Now some cards do this better than others so you need to see which cards would earn you the most, based on your spending habits. On top of that it comes down to the other perks and benefits the card provides, whether that is in the form of statement credits or free hotel stays. The best travel card is going to be the one that is the best value to you, however here is my top 5.
The runner up for the list is the Discover It Miles Card. This card is a great all around card, especially for beginners. It is easy to get, simples to use and earns a 1.5x bonus on all spend put on the card, instead of being limited to certain categories.
The 5th best travel card would be the Amex Gold Card. This card makes it on this list due to how well it earns points that can be redeemed for travel. Not only that, but the categories it earns 4x back on are frequently used while traveling. Now this card does have a $250 annual fee which is offset through the credits it provides, but that could be too much for some people.
The 4th best travel card would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. An overall great card from Chase that I believe everyone should have in their wallets. It is easy to justify with its $95 annual fee through its excellent welcome bonus.
The 3rd best travel card would be the Capital One Venture Card. This is a great and affordable card for anyone looking to keep it simple with a single card. It earns a stable 2x miles on every purchase and even provides a clear credit to justify the annual fee.
The 2nd best travel card would be the Hilton Honors Amex Aspire Card. For anyone looking to get any hotel credit cards, stop right there. This is the one for you. This card gets you a free room to stay in at a Hilton property and also $250 dollar credit towards them, easily making up for the $450 dollar annual fee it has. The best hotel card on the market hands down!
The TOP Travel card would be the Amex Platinum Card. This is by far my most favorite card in general, purely because of how much value it provides me with. Yes it by far has the most expensive annual fee out of all the cards on this list but also has the most credits to help justify that.
