I usually just cut my cables into smaller pieces, makes it a lot easier to fit many shorter cables into my guitar case than a long one. Taping them together with silver tape before every gig has been a bit of a hassle tho, and I had to start carrying around garden cutters in order to avoid having to buy new kitchen scissors every week as they kept breaking...

Bold of you to assume I wrap my cables.

As an IT network technician I can fully feel your pain.

Merchant mariners do it differently, we spin the cable a turn between our thumb and fingers each time we make a loop. Thus we don't have to make the over/under thingy and don't have to deal with those issues at the end. This comes from throwing lines ashore when mooring and you can't have any loops in the throwing line.

Kudos for sharing this! Long ago, I went to a liberal arts college with a "media loan" dept. (audio/video gear), and all students had to watch a short video explaining this method and demonstrate proficiency as a prerequisite to check out any gear. It is a time-saver, cable life-expectancy extender, pro-points accumulator, basically just THE RIGHT FRIGGIN' WAY!

I have never had an issue with my cable getting tangled wrapping them the "wrong" way. I have had them tangle every time I try to use the over under method.

It also trains cables and helps with their longevity!

Me too! It's crazy, wherever I go I see people wrapping cables, and they do it the wrong way! at least 25 people a day, i tell you. What is this all about? Why all these people wrapping cables left and right all of a sudden? I thought wireless was the future

I do a variation of the over under. So i just keep doing the same over motion but with a twist, literally. I start with the same over motion but all the warps after that i give a little twist/twirl with my fingers. That makes what ever kink that would appear go farther down the caple until the very end where it just unwinds the kink. The end result is exactly the same and ny cables have lasted a long time

I've never had to do wrist gymnastics for the roadie roll. Just pull inside/outside, and it does the same wind with less contorting.

Thank you wish I would have knew this before I have ruined many cables.

I just wrap my cables around the neck of my guitar saves me from having to unplug it. 👌

STILL cant figure this out. Something in my brain just can’t process this information. I had my buddy Jake show me IN PERSON exactly what to do, step by step, and I still couldn’t do it.

That's why you don't do that over under... if you wrap over over you don't end up your cable in knots. Wrapping over under is how you get us front of house techs very angry with you. You can't run the cable to anything properly and quickly. With any amount of cables the over under method you waste massive amounts of time. Sorry over under is fine for your one personal cable but if you do that to an entire cable kit on a big show you might just get fired from a crew.
