I'm 64, was a software engineer, retired at 45. I did not have a pile of cash. What I had was a skill that would have allowed me to jump back into a job if needed. That turned out to be great security for me. I live a simple life.

I think you're wrong when you say retire in 5 years with 2 million. half of that 400k would probably go to taxes. Unless you already have some of it saved and only need about 1 million.

That's awesome how they run their business! All the employees are like are family and the more the team helps Netflix succeed they are all rewarded and pretty much split the profits with their employees, by giving stocks.

As a young programmer, I sure hope Netflix is around when I've gained enough experience...

Absolutely crazy how much software developers make in the US in those big tech companies. In Europe our salaries are much more down to earth. Maybe they will rise at some point, I wouldn't say no to it, but I still wouldn't want to trade in European social security benefits not being tied to our jobs.
