What The Hell is the G7? What Do They Actually Do? - TLDR News

This week the G7 is meeting in Cornwall (England) to discuss COVID and other major global isues. However, what they actually do and who they are is a little confusing and contentious. So in this video we discuss what the G7 is, what they're going to do this weekend and the issues with the grouping.

I thought the G in G7 stood for "great". In Brazil, we are used to calling the four teams at the top of table of the national championship the "G4" for that reason.

As somebody from a country that is _never_ going to have G7 representation, if you've bitching and moaning about others getting together to have a technically informal talk, it's probably because the more formal mechanism isn't effective. Ask yourself this: how can the UN become more effective?

And if you can't come up with something, consider palling up with countries of a similar degree of power (because practically nobody wants to be in a group involving China) that you can form a bloc with. The G7 is a bloc. You can form a bloc. It may involve G7+x nations. Form a bloc; form a set of policies around that bloc; ensure the members of that bloc follow through. Be an example! If the G7 say some thing can't happen, prove that it can!
