Показать описание
This weeks pottery video shows how I throw and trim some simple angular lidded jars. They're thrown from a high iron stoneware clay and are quite simple to finish as each part acts as a chuck for the other, which I explain more in the video.

0:14 - Throwing jar
3:47 - Weighing out clay for lids
4:39 - Adjusting callipers
4:57 -Throwing lid
7:42 - Trimming lid to fit jar
8:46 - Lid cross-section
9:15 - Trimming outside of jar
13:43 - Trimming base
15:13 - Stamping my maker's mark
15:35 - Finished examples

Thanks for watching and if you're got any further questions please leave it down in the comments and I'll do my best to reply.

What I so appreciate about you is that you don’t ridicule other artists because they make different choices and use differing techniques than you use.
Certainly, you acknowledge those differences at times, but you don’t call other artists “silly”, ”lazy”, et al.

I watch numerous artists, and am sometimes saddened by their comments about other artists whose style/techniques differ.
Sometimes it is more telling of one’s character by what is left unsaid than by what is spoken.

Kudos to you.

Thank you for allowing us to have a view into your pottery world.

Florian,

Thank you as always for another wonderful, calming, contemplative video of your consummate craftsmanship!

I would be very interested in seeing a video on your creative process. How you develop new pottery shapes and ideas, and how you refine them to the point where you are satisfied with them. I look forward to Sunday every week, because I know another of your vessels will be explained.

Thank you again!

As a healthcare worker last few years have been the most difficult. Your videos reconnected me to my love for ceramics. You inspired me to throw a jar after 10 years. Thank you!!!

Thank you for making these videos! It helped me immensely to improve in many ways. You are the only person that finally was able to explain me spiral wedging, and I watched dozens of videos of it before. I would love to see a video of you making and trimming those larger angular vases that you have on your shelves)

Thank you for this beautiful and informative video. I'm ever impressed by your ability to remove thrown pieces without distorting the shape. I find this so challenging and often end up with oval-y rims on my cylinders. I'd love to see a video about your tips for removing thrown pieces.
