Today marks the start of my training for my next race; the Stour Valley Path 50km Trail race in August this year. I give an insight of how i plan to use Heart rate specific training to get ready to race over the longer distance.

Love your video's! Your running form gives me motivation to keep improving my form. I also recently got a HRM (from Garmin) and they told me to get even more accurate HR you can wet the sensor pads before putting it on. Don't know about your HRM though;)

Good luck in 50k. Always run my best marathons and 50ks with 25k to 30k long runs and keep my speed. Just won a trail 50k with longest run of 26.2k two weeks before. No other runs more than 21k. Lots of Ingebrigtsen double threshold workouts. Ran 2:22:22 marathon off 10 mile training. Think people do too much slow stuff to get ready for marathons and beyond.

That's a super low HR mate for that pace, it's actually 7.30/mi pace you ran aswell.. so really impressive 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻 i like the idea of being able to charge it aswell 👍🏻

Ben, thanks for the video!
How did you calculate your zones? Using hear rate reserve, lactate threshold or just maximum HR?
Could you share you max HR and how did you get it?

Thanks 👍

Out of interest how did you establish your heart rate zones. I'm sort of assuming it wasn't by the rough guide method of subtracting age from 220?
