this summer I did my first and only trail race, 40k with close to 2k elevation, but with almost no proper preparation (few 5-6k runs before). but what helped me, and what people often forget, is how walking is important for long runs, especially trail races. you will have to climb hills and mountains. road runners quit this race, it was too steep and hilly for them, too hot etc. going on flat surface vs hills and mountains is a lot different. lucky for me, I live on a hill, surrounded by mountains, so I climb a lot every day, and I walk 18+k steps a day, so that really saved me on my race. try to throw in hikes here and there, don't just run. and I'm with you guys, I hate road running. I'm 191cm, 110kg guy ( that's about 6'3", 240lbs). pavement just wrecks my already messed up back. started running more regularly lately, with my dog, got some meadows and hilly parts, so up and down, and all around. my dog gets tired, and I have something to do for that hour or so :). so, tip no.2: get a dog, great for your conditioning :D great video and great tips guys!

Just found your channel. It was so interesting hearing you guys talk about your journeys. Good luck on your training! I also had zero interest in road marathons. When covid hit i had more free time, saw a video on the Glen Coe Skyline race, and yelled "honey, I'm doing an ultra!" 😂 I've since done 2 50ks and 2 trail marathons, along with a bunch of super challenging 18+ mile races, and absolutely love it. The atmosphere, encouragement, and support in the trail/ ultra community are incredible. I'm aiming for a 50 miler next year, with plenty of fun races along the way. (I use them as supported long runs when the price and proximity are good!) Looking forward to watching you kill it!!

Refreshing nutrition advice. I'm not anti carb, but I run so much better while fasted and/or with minimal calorie intake. I therefore like Generation Ucan.

Sounds like we are on a similar path man! I just started running trails earlier this year, did a 18 mile race, and I have a 27 mile and 50k lined up now. I’ll keep following you and thanks for the great content!
