I once blue screened my school laptop after purposely shutting it down during a windows update. That was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done to a laptop (I thought the screen froze lmao) and what actually happened is that the whole windows system got deleted including system 32. thank god my school fixes those laptops for free

Hold down the power button and perform what's called a "hardware shutdown" and see the real affects :)

I'd like to know how you get to the conclusion that it is rare.

I have personally tried it once, where I needed to repair windows with a boot drive.

I think it is because during an update, it might replace the entire windows structure, which I assume is done from a boot state, so it might be more common than rare.
