As an Aussie that does live near a beach - we do have bbqs at the beach, they’re literally installed there full time. I’m sure some people have it on Christmas.
Edit: that being said, it’s not near the sandy area, it’s a little bit further back, ‘on the waterfront’. The only food you should have near the sand is ice cream.

Speaking as an Australian myself, Pearl is quite correct on snags, and I live near a beach and I don't spend Xmas there. Though it's likely some families do, we call it the Xmas scorcher for a reason after all.
