PROBIOTIC SHOWDOWN: Comparing Yogurt Brands
Показать описание
If you're interested in the health benefits of probiotics, you won't want to miss this video! In it, I conduct a serial dilution experiment on store-bought yogurt to determine the number of live probiotic organisms in different brands. The results are surprising: while some brands had as few as 100,000,000 colony-forming units (cfu) per gram, others had as many as 10,000,000,000 cfu/gram. These findings suggest that the probiotic content of different brands can vary significantly. Additionally, the high probiotic counts we observed in some yogurts raise the question of whether it's better to get your probiotics from whole foods like yogurt, rather than from supplements. If you're interested in probiotics and want to learn more about how to incorporate them into your diet, this video is for you!
Siggi's has about 100,000,000 cfu/gram
Greek Gods has about 1,000,000,000 cfu/gram
Oikos has about 10,000,000,000 cfu/gram!!
Compare those numbers to supplements you buy at the store!! Eating whole foods is likely better than taking probiotic supplements.
There are some caveats here. There are several kinds of bacteria in each of these brands. Some grow slower and some faster. But on all plates I saw and counted at least two distinct morphologies.
Leave a comment on what you recommend for future experiments!
