I have a Harrier, my husband rescued him from the California fires at 6 weeks old. We were certain he was a beagle, except he didn't have rounded ears...now he is 5 months and weighs 30lbs.

There is another breed that more than the others fits your criteria. The Beagle Harrier is a very rare breed, found almost exclusively in France, and is a scent hound used to hunt wild boar. I rescued one. I was originally told he was a Beagle but weighing 47 pounds and standing almost 19 inches, well, I knew something was off. His DNA confirmed my suspicions and he was not a cross breed. Much calmer than a Beagle and capable of traveling 100 miles in a single outing. Not super fast but determined.

We had a Basset Hound and LOVE the breed, very much like a Beagle. My husband has been drawn to the Besenji, but I would love to be able to rescue a former racing Greyhound and give it a great life at the end of its days of being used and abused!!
