On Sunday, Turkey held local elections for its mayors and councillors. In a shocking twist, the main opposition party beat Erdogan's ruling AKP. In this video, we take a look at the results, why the CHP did so well, and whether this could spell the end for Erdogan.

I cant stand politicians who refuse to step down despite clearly doing a terrible job.
Dont bring the whole country down just because you're stubborn.

As a social Democrat of 🇹🇷 I can not underline how much I despise Kılıçdaroğlu. His ego, his incapacity to read the Turkish voter, his taking advantage of the earthquake to announce his candidacy, his gaslighting authoritarian gimmicks acting as a Democrat alternative and then sidelining in party opposition and ousting journalist just for questioning his decisions. His last minute anti immigrant - anti kurd U-turn. That guy has taken my teenage years from me.

Economy, refugees, broken justice system. This happened even late. He should thank to Kilicdaroglu about his presidency, who is also hardly supported by even CHP voters, otherwise he would already lost president election against mayor of Istanbul or Ankara.

As a Turk, I can say that you explained very well of the context. All of the informations actually true and your comments also, especially about Kılıçdaroğlu.

That Kilicdaroglu guy is a disgrace to the opposition of Turkey, repeateadly unsuccessful politician who seized the moment of oppositional unity to put his candidacy again to maybe achieve smth finally. Guy gambled his nation's future because of stubborness.

If you're not a Turk, I should say a "bravo" for your work. Accurate analysis. And it seems you're a hard-worker.

I am a Turk of Kurdish origin. I say this with pride, because Turk means all of us, our common roof, our home. The most beautiful definition was given by the Great ATATÜRK: "The people of Turkiye who founded the Republic of Turkiye are called the Turkish nation." That is the end of the matter for me! May my blood and life be sacrificed to the great Turkish Nation. Happy to be a Turk!

As a Turk, I can say that it was a surprise. Due to the election result last year, I completely lost my hope for the country. It is nice to see seculars are on the top.

You missed another important point in regards to Erdogan's loss in the recent election;

The trade with Israel, and YRP's rise related to this matter.
YRP pulled a lot of votes from Erdogan.

Almost 10 minutes and probably the best video to summarize the state of Turkiye at the moment. We have more hopes! I believe that Turkiye has potential to become a much better democratic nation than the west itself. It is because of its location and harmonization between west and east! We should start playing our 'BRIDGE' role and not make war cries over neighboring nations such as Greece, Syria, Iraq, Isreal and so on... We should also stop playing 2 sided in many cases (Russia and Ukraine). We should start playing our bridge role with a strong democracy. I believe, we have wisdom, experience, and maturity to reach this level! Fingers crossed!

He destroys their economy internally but 40% still voted for him. They deserve him...until they grow a spine and stop behaving like sheep

Great video! Just a tip, Ş is pronounced like Sh so it's "Yavash", Ç is like Ch (you got this one right) and you can just ignore Ğ as a silent letter (like you do with Erdoğan).

Too many leaders around the world have been in power too long. There needs to be term limits and change to mitigate the damage left by bad policies. Too many bad short-term policies for selfish interests leaves long-term damage for future generations to struggle through
