Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencil Review for adult coloring books

WOW, this is a LONG review of the Prismacolor Premier Softcore for adult coloring books. I answer a LOT of questions about these pencils: How do they color? Why do some people call these prismacolor softcore pencils "the best pencils ever" and others "terrible"? Why knowing how pencils are made helps you understand how to care for this pencil? Why do I say this is a great buy for smaller sets but a "Don't Buy" for larger sets like 150 colors?

Thank you for another thorough, concise, thoughtful review. Please don't apologize for the length because I very much appreciate all the work and detail you put into it. I've been researching which pencil set to invest in for the past few weeks. I watched your Polychromos review before watching this one and have decided on the Polychromos due in large part to these reviews, so thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I just ordered my Faber Castells today and I can't wait to get my new pencils!

I just got the 150 set of Prismacolor pencils as a gift. I haven't started coloring with software pencils. I am not an artist and am just using them for coloring. So I hope I don't have too many problems with them since I already have them. All the best, Sean

I just want to say thank you for an amazing, in-depth and honest review on these pencils. I was about to buy a set of 36 which, as an Australian is quite expensive, around $90 for it. I had heard the hype but not much on the negatives on the prismacolors. Your review and your other videos that I may or may not have just binged watch has inspired me to instead to buy a set of polychromos and buy the Caran D'Ache Luminance white pencil. Thank so much because I'm pretty sure you just saved me from wasting a lot of money due to inconsistencies in production and fragile nature of the prismacolors. Subscribed :)

I have to agree with everything you said, the of center and the unglued core to the wood casing really is a big problem.

I recently got a set of 132 Prismacolor Premiers for $76 on Amazon, which I thought was a great value and well worth it for the color variety. I've just started using Polychromos so I don't yet have an opinion on which I like best, but thanks for the review!

This was a good review and a very fair assessment of the current quality of Prismacolor pencils.I've used them since the mid 80's and I can tell you that the difference in quality when Berol made them is a night and day one.One thing I've found helpful is to never buy a set (online or in the store because in the store they are sealed) and to buy online as little as possible...find a very well stocked art store which sells pencils individually (in my area that would be a store called Plaza) and you can hand inspect each one before you buy it.To me it's worth it to spend 80 cents more a pencil than to play "Russian roulette" online and end up getting a warped pencil or one where the lead isn't centered and can't be sharpened thereby making it useless. In the end you actually save money.

I bought the 60 set of FC Polys. However, I found the 48 Prismacolor Premier for $20.10 at Dick Blick plus a free pad of color pencil paper. Have not really used them yet, but pretty psyched to have gotten them for $0.42 per pencil!

I love my prismacolors and quality control has greatly improved recently.

Always go online to Michaels, or Hobby Lobby's website and look for a coupon. I used a 40 percent off coupon today and bought pencils. Sometimes they have a 50 percent off coupon.

Upon your suggestion I immediately watched this review and boy is it good!!!! I mean I love it. Your information is measured and complete and actually made me feel better about my choice with the 72-set Prismas as a nice intermediate set for now. I know now what to expect and how I should handle and sharpen them.

This set fits my needs as a newbie to adult coloring who hasn't decided which medium I like the most, right now I'm really into markers and am purchasing some mid-range Spectrum Noirs before I fall down the Copic rabbit hole. I didn't want to buy too small of a Prisma set nor one too large so I could have a range of colors without too many similar shades. Also, I had an Amazon gift card which dropped the set to under $40, so you confirmed that my selection is well worth the money I paid. I also need a softer handle due to hand pain and I won't be hanging my work for now.

This review was really helpful. I had been on the fence about which pencils to buy after I felt my Crayola ones from back in the day were good, but I couldn't shade as well with them and I had to press too hard to get brilliant colors. I bought the Prismacolor Premier set of 48 and I am really happy with it. I got them from Amazon and I felt the quality was good. Perhaps I got a good batch.

By far the best and most indepth review I have seen on Prismacolor. I already have the 60 Polychromos, but have for a long time been tempted by the extra colours in the prismacolor 150 set. Your review I feel has saved me from a lot of heartache and frustration. Thank you for such a wonderful review :)

I think the issue isn't he wood casing being poor quality, it's that prismacolor doesn't glue the core to the casing for the length

This review was very informative. I have experienced breakage with my Prismacolor pencils and have been very disappointed in them for just that fact. I thought is was something I was doing! I also appreciate your recommendations. I do however love all the colors available, but like you pointed out, the quality does matter when you are spending 100+ dollars. Glad I found you on YouTube. :-)
