It’s finally here! The Kato N Scale Pacific Surfliner! This is a beautiful new N scale passenger set from Kato. Note that the set does not come with track or a power supply, so you need to supply those yourself. The Kato M1 set is a great starting point.

Hey Steve. I happened to notice you were running the cab car backwards.
One of my favorite features of sets like this is the directional lighting, red lights on the tail and headlights on the front for push-pull operation. A fun feature especially for DC

I got mine last weekend and ran it on the T-Trak layout we had setup at the show in Monroe, WA. It of course ran flawlessly even in push mode. I am very impressed with this model.

The Kato Pacific Surfliner 7 car set is on my bucket list for my N scale Pacific West Coast model railroad. The video is very informative. For N scale locomotives, passenger train sets I prefer Kato.

I may be biased (being from California) but I think it would look great on a west coast layout. Does seem like it wants a wider radius curve for a more prototypical look.

Mine just arrived a few days ago. I got the 8 piece along with the 4 piece add-on. I like the set so much that now I want the 4 piece with the LA locomotive.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful set with us. I will get some Amtrack trains and that would be great set to have.

Amazing 😍 I'm also planning to build my n scale trains diorama and will add my favourite trains 🚂 🚃 🚃 🚃 😊

That looks really good. The only fault I'd give it is the spacing between the cars being a bit wide (due to couplers and supporting tight radiuses).

But definitely nice to see some new additions to the line up.

If you like this style of loco (SC-44 Charger) and color scheme you'll like my local passenger train the Coaster. Dark blue with light blue and white stripes. Bachmann makes them.

I live very near the tracks where this runs. I should get the timetable and watch.

Hi Steve, my daughter got me the charger for Christmas, it runs great but I was kinda disappointed when I found out that one of the key (cool) features did not come with it (the engine room lighting).
I did pickup the Kato light kit at my hobby shop for just over $9 and it looks great.
Now I’m trying to get the sound decoder for it then it’ll be done.
BTW I got the Amtrak

A good review. These are much appreciated.

I might try a body swap with another SC-44 with sound.

WARNING: Buying a model train set of any gauge is highly addictive and may draw you away from other pastimes like watching TV or taking out the garbage! Use in moderation. Habit forming. If you find yourself adding turnouts or using the terms "rail yard or DCC, " seek medical or psychiatric attention immediately!

It is a pretty set, but if I was building something prototypically for my area (from DC to Roanoke) I would start with a nice shiny new engine with seven beat up cars and a dated snack car towards the middle

Hi Steve, do you know why one of the cars is in standard Amtrak livery rather than surfliner?

Glad I bought the Kato ALC 42 charger set last year . I’m having a hard time finding a V3 track set. Any ideas?
