Beginners guide to charging LiPo batteries + parallel charging

Some quick little tips to help people out there when it comes to charging Lipo batteries. I know there can be a lot of numbers and things to understand when it comes to batteries and it is important to get them right because Lipos can be dangerous in used incorrectly. Happy flying everyone. If you found this helpful leave a like so can help other people too.

EDIT: I accidentally said miliamp hours instead of amp hours at points in the vid, But im sure you get the idea : )

Wooden chop sticks tap at a lower frequency than the plastic ones for less interference and a warmer feel. You made me smile, thanks a lot.

Awesome tips m8 but allow me to comment on something which might get you into a revised already awesomeness. You can equalize the batteries voltages by just letting them rest on the parallel board (main leads and balancing connectors). so if you have one 3s bat with 3.70/3.71/3.70 and a second one with 3.4/3.41/3.42 within a few minutes resting them on a parallel board, both batteries will have similar cell voltages and ready to be charged in parallel. (ps: of course I am talking for same batteries, cells, capacity and discharge rate) Thanks again for your video. keep em coming. I really enjoy your channel!

I got into fpv because of your channel. got a 5 in racer and a set of goggles. I'm having so much fun and I keep coming back for videos like this. my board just came in and I'm watching this to know what I'm doing. thank u so much for this channel. super informative and helpful. Currently my favorite

Can’t believe that getting into RC would open up a whole new world of unknown basics like lipo charging and frequencies and what not 🙂 thanks for the quick guide! Was very helpful. Found they ship the batteries uncharged for safety reasons

Thank you for the super clear explanation! I already ruined 2 battery's and a drone because I'm a beginner.. should have watched this video first ;)

This was a great little refresher from being away from the hobby for much too long. I got a good chuckle when you brought up the chop stick and laughed my ass of when you started giving specs :)

Thank you so much! I am a beginner looking to get into the hobby and this is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you. I have watched a stack of vids on this and good lord, it feels like no one can just say what the heck to do in plain English. This vid made it plain enough that even I could understand. Oh also, it was your $100 builds that got me interested on race drones, rather than the camera drones I was flying. Thanks again!

I'm a complete noob in the drone/fpv hobby and I appreciate your videos and the info you provide! (I do read the comments too!) Keep up the the good work Stew, and thank you!! I've been more inspired to get into the hobby because of your videos than any others on YouTube!!

Enjoying your channel!
I have grown up with those chopsticks!
They have always been "the" preferred chopsticks over the fancy lacquer or plastic ones in our household for 50 years. Way better grip on your food! They also are just handy around the house for all purposes as you know!

Hi folks, thanks for great video.
just my 50 cents of info to improve this guide.
There is few bad scenario still exist when you connect all this cells in parallel, each and
every pack & cells have different internal resistance so the consequences might be harmful because of next reasons:
1- not equal current flowing in each cell (you better not charge whole pack at its 1c, for example 5 packs 1000mah each not so safe to charge at 5 amps), safest side is to charge at C rating of 1 pack which is far over protection but u decide.
2- if you have one bad cell the balancing process might take way more time and potentially damage all of your packs at same cell number.
so be careful and better of all write on each battery pack it's cell internal resistance and try to match packs as much as possible.
BR all.

I can't stress how thankful I am for your videos. They've really helped me along the way. Even with becoming comfortable with soldering on boards. I appreciate the help and knowledge!

8:31 Hi. Why do you only check the first cell?

Ahh Mr. Big shot and his nice chopstick. Great video Stu! I always count on you for direction. Now I can safely parallel charge my 450mah whoop batteries. Thank you.

Even on a screwed up day I cant hold myself when you start your video with your typical awesome Aussie welcome ..😄👍 best regards from Germany

another brilliant video. I would have assumed that a parallel charger was a charger, so would have had to order a charger after it arrived 😐 big learning curve 😊

great video Stu! I just throw my batterys onto the parallel board with no balance leads to balance Eachothers voltage for 10 mins then I connect the balance leads for another 10 mins... that way when I go to charge them again they are all the same cell voltage... I typically do that at the end of a day of flying (useing the same methods that you use for charging e.g. same cell count and mah ratings)

Just found your channel, thanks for such a helpful video. I'm just about to go 4S with 2 1500mah lipos. Just to confirm, if I parallel charge them I'll do 1500mah X2, 3000 at 3.0A? That's using, a gtpower td610 pro with a gtpower 2X2 4S adapter

I want to put two batteries in parallel. If only one of them is connected to the charger, will the other battery charge too?
