He knows he can’t come back after already dying once. Vegeta has nothing to prove anymore. He has no choice but to accept defeat and embrace Goku’s sacrifice.

This scene reminds me of when he confronts Goku at the martial arts tournament after he turns majin. Before they fight, he says, “Live your life ruled by another, watch your race dwindle to a handful, then tell me what has more meaning than your own strength!” He grew up in a world where you either fought or you died, all under the rule of frieza. Strength to him is deeper than simply life or death. But it’s the sole measure of how he values himself was because it would be the only thing that could free him if he became strong enough. With frieza gone, Goku’s death meant that Vegeta would never be able to find that out for himself. That’s why it hits so hard.
