silicone spray is usually used on rubber or plastic parts. I'd use a dry PTFE type spray on the steel rods. silicone never dries and will collect dust and dirt and exacerbate the problems

My body solid Smith Machine fared no better with silicone spray / cleaning / realignment and required respray every few weeks. the guide rod sleeves (that move) have plastic bushings so petroleum etc a no no. They do GREAT - tiny spray now every several months with lithium based grease.

This is probably a dumb question, but I have a cable station where you sideload, should you leave the weight on it when you not use it, or always take it off and put the weight on it only for the session? Right now it has 20kg on it, and the cables are flexed, whereas when there is no weight on it, they kind of relax. Any different in durability if I take off the weight when not in session?

The spray you use doesn't have silicon in it. You need the specific version, the one in your hand is multi purpose.

I have a smith machine that moves slightly better one side than the other . Creating a bit of misalignment in the bar . This has lead to the cable coming off runner . Tried lube . Can’t work out if the problem is the counter weight or on the bar attachment .

What about the cables or pulleys? Any suggestions on how to lubricate those? Ok to use the same silicone lubricant?
