for picking... try having either your little finger (how i play) or your palm... in contact with the guitar. Upstrokes when strumming should just be a little flick of a few strings. See if that helps and let me know how you go.

You have revolutionised my guitar playing. I learnt guitar on my own watching you tube videos. After watching your videos it has changed my thinking, style and ability of playing rhythm guitar. I play rhythm guitar for a christian worship band in the United Kingdom and I pray that God blesses you in all your future endeavours. If I need any advise on a rhythm pattern for a particular christian worship song is there a way to get some help.

Your strumming lessons are great. You could organize them into a strumming playlist, it will become a rithm course.
