The Poisson Distribution: Introduction (fast version)

A brief introduction to the Poisson distribution. I discuss the conditions required for the Poisson distribution to hold, discuss the formula, and look at a simple example. I end off with a brief discussion of the relationship between the binomial distribution and the Poisson distribution.

Like most compact, well-written lecture material, it's SO NICE to be able to rewind at random. It's so frustrating to listen to a good lecture and be interrupted with thoughts of (a) should I listen and think? or (b) copy this down. AAAUUUGH! Thanks for taking the time. You're enthusiasm is also infectious.

A pet peeve I wish you'd help with, is normal distribution curves that are drawn so incredibly exaggerated up at the mean. No way the area is 1. Students are eventually shocked to see how much more flat a real one is, and how it looks more like a cymbal than a bell (!)

Pet peeve #2, while I'm peeving, is that, as a stickler for spelling, "memoryless" is misspelled and should read "memoriless" just like "penniless, merciless" etc. Weird, huh!

Hi Joshua. I can see why I'd get a dislike here or there. This video's a little fast, and not everyone's cup of tea. I've actually got an updated introduction to the Poisson distribution in production, with a few improvements and a slightly slower pace. But I'm glad people seem to like this one.
