Hatching Supermarket Eggs Part 1

Показать описание
We went to our local Sainsbury's, and purchased some chicken eggs, and put these in the incubator, with the aim of answering the question - Can you hatch supermarket eggs?

The results shocked us. Hatching supermarket eggs was something we thought wouldn't happen, but it did!

If they take as long as you took to put them in the incubator they will have the gestation period of an elephant.

Great video, I've recently hatched quail eggs I got from waitrose (the only place near me that sold them) 2 out of 24.
I will be trying the sainsburys chicken eggs now though!! When's part two?

Being unwanted and big side up refrigerated is the proper way to store for longest possible survival so you are off to a decent start be even better if they stamped with lay date but less ink is probably better

I'm sure this must have been said by now, but free range organic eggs are not washed in the USA either.

You *can* hatch some eggs from the grocery. But its heavily dependant on where you are in the world. In North America eggs are pasturized and stored in the refrigerator. Those will not hatch.
As far as i know eggs in the UK are not refrigerated or pasteurized. Those *could* hatch

I tried to hatch supermarket quail eggs without an incubator. I kept them warm for about a week or so and opened them. I got two babies out of twelve. I have since bought an incubator and hatched out some hatching eggs. This year I’m going to try another dozen from the shops to see if I’m successful.

What would happen if you didn't candle them and just left them all to develop?

wow i thought those "i hatched a supermarket egg" with super dramatic music were a scam but i guess if its free range then it may be fertilized
obviously must not be possible in the usa because they are required to wash and refrigerate the eggs

Can you hatch American or Canadian eggs that are refrigerated? i know in the UK the stores dont refrigerate the eggs, which is prob why u are able to hatch them, but here they do fridge them.
