I like it how whenever you have a problem with the positioning you are like:"Oh yeah it's because of the padding", "Oh yeah it's just the clear property" and you fix it very quickly... but if it would have happened to me, I'll be banging my head against the wall while I can't get any idea what's wrong and how I fix it lol :)

I finally understand positioning (or at least I hope so)! Much appreciated! One question though: why didn't you clearfix after nav (instead of nav ul)? Is it always done to the first parent element of a floating item? I tried applying the fix to nav and the bar grows in height a little bit.

to preserve padding you could've used box-sixing: border-box;
