I saw this trailer in college when my roommates and I went to watch ID4 on opening night. This trailer was an unexpected treat and one of my all time favorite movie theater experiences.

It’s a true testament to the power of Star Wars.. I was born in 1996 and didn’t get to see these movies in cinema until my late 20s. Just blows my mind how many generations are still enjoying these movies decades after the first release.

this trailer is still epic nearly 30 years later.

This is, after all this time, STILL the best trailer a re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy has ever gotten. The way the narrator declares that watching these movies on a TV screen is not seeing it at all followed by the X-Wing _bursting out of the TV_ as the Opening Crawl fanfare blares will never not be a perfect way of announcing the return to the big screen.

Went with my Mom and sister to a showing of Space Jam on a cold Saturday in November of 1996 and I had no idea that there was going to be such a thing as a "Special Edition" coming. This trailer comes up and all the hairs on my arm just stood up. I was ECSTATIC. It was still maybe themes electrifying moment of my movie going career. People went NUTS. Nothing today even comes close.

When this trailer dropped (with Star Trek First Contact) the crowd cheered so loud you could hear it outside! Then they cheered again when they named Darth Vader.

I was 6 years old in '97. I remember seeing this trailer. This trailer got me curious and ever since then I became a huge fan.

I remember seeing this trailer before Mars Attacks! A friend who I went to see it with, had been dismissive of Star Wars because it was "old". This trailer got him pumped!

What a thrill it was seeing this in cinemas leading up to the rerelease. As a kid, I only ever saw Star Wars on video so this was a huge deal. Sure, the changes weren’t great but it was still nice to see on a 50 foot screen with hundreds of people. I’ll never forget it.

This print is absolutely glorious. This was such a thrill having all three original films (I can tolerate the changes!) on the big screen in 1997 for a limited time. I wonder if something might be planned in the next 5 years for it's 50th Anniversary for a big screen return. There is just something so magical about film grain that I really miss from cinema screenings. Thank you so much for uploading this treat. 💯

I have an unopened 35mm trailer for Jedi Special Edition from this release in my collection. I worked at a theater in 97 and we had several extra reels so I got one.

I'll never forget the shock of seeing the SE trilogy poster in a theater lobby at the beginning of January 1997 and realizing all three films were being reissued in a couple of weeks.

(By the time I finally got around to seeing ID4 in theaters the previous summer, Fox had pulled the attached trailer - that one was put on the SW DVD set years later - and hadn't yet started with the TV campaign. Different times.)

I was there opening day for all three movies, I never got to see the OT in its entirety on the big screen except for ROTJ. This was such a treat. I have the OT remaster on VHS and DVD as well as SE Trilogy on DVD, BLU RAY and 4K. I still shed a few tears during this trailer, just because I would’ve loved to experience this event with my dad. Sadly he died a year later after we saw ROTJ in theater. He got me into Star Wars and even at 45 I still enjoy it and geek out over it.
