Originally, this video was made by Marcelo Zuniga( His channel was blocked in October). He made an awesome job and i do not want that was just erased from history. Soon enough, i will try to upload his other videos.
P.S. I dont get any money from this video, i uploading it by fair-use. I had to cut one part from video....

Imagine getting the role of jabba only to replaced by a cgi slug

I like how originally, Jabba was Irish, so they made him green.

That last cut with the stand-in actor to play Jabba was actually fucking amazing. Dude actually played a pretty convincing underworld crime boss.

Here to repost a gem of a comment from the original video:

"I used to hate A New Hope, but then they added CGI rocks and I was sold."

I'm one of the rare people in my generation who didn't grow up with the Special Editions (my parents had the VHS tapes for the Original Trilogy, everyone else I knew had Special Edition DVDs), so I was always confused when people talked about Jabba being in A New Hope.

To be honest, I'd be glad if they sold both versions for us to enjoy. The original definitely had its charm.

I thought it was odd that Han called Jabba a wonderful “human being” lol

Han magically breaks his neck avoiding Greedo's shot

What's most impressive is that the actor playing Jabba KNEW he was going to be replaced by some SFX/puppetry.

But rather than just say his placeholder lines he delvers a very compelling performance

One big reason why I dislike the "special editions" is because they take away from the visual achievements of the late 70s and early 80s;
if you watch the original unaltered versions then you can be impressed by the fact that "they pulled off all of these things way back in the 70s and 80s!", but if you watch the special editions then it is more like "well these movies were made in the 70s and 80s, and then there is all of this extra stuff that they added much later".

I wish I could have seen all the original films before the remasters/added effects. Those movies were years before I existed but there is a sense of nostalgia seeing how creative studios got with practical effects before CG became the absolute norm

I have always been a lot more familliar with the 2011 version, and because of that, everytime that someone told me that the movie had a budget of only 11 million dollars I couldn't believe it. Now seeing the original version I now understand this budget lol

I love seeing the side by side comparisons. I don’t mind a lot of the changes but it goes too far at times. The CGI in Mos Eisley is jarring & doesn’t mix well with the other effects. The 97 Greedo scene was awful. Later revisions have made it more tolerable. The Jabba scene still bugs me almost 25 years after I first saw it. The 97 CGI is awful. The revised version is a little better but it still isn’t convincing & doesn’t mix well with the existing creature effects. Worse it undermines Jabba. Instead of a fearsome gangster he comes off as a pushover. Not at all the desired effect. Similarly, adding Boba Fett changes him from a dangerous bounty hunter to Jabba’s lackey.

What’s crazy about the Greedo scene is that it went through even more changes after the 2011 release. I think in the most recent one, it cuts Han’s head dodging, and Greedo says “Maklunky!” before getting shot. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

To think most reaction channels watch the 2011 version, saying "wow, they already had great CGI in 1977 !!!"

I feel like the scene with Jabba was a bit unnecessary, because I feel that Jabba was more mysterious when he was only mentioned by name.
This is kind of like how the first "Terminator" movie only mentions the name John Connor without actually showing that character until in the sequel.

My favorite part is, the little flying robot in Mos Eisley is actually a re-used CGI asset from Flubber with Robin Williams (which ILM was doing the special effects for at the same time)

While the special effects is hit or miss, I like how the 2011 version adds more scale to the the Mos Eisley Spaceport.

Watching Han Solo dodge Greedo's shot at 0, 25x speed is creepy.
