This podcast was such a delight to watch.
Two intellectuals of their field just having a nice discussion.

I love how even though buff Mike is super smart and talks a lot most of the time, in this video his only two words are “huge” and “yeah” 😂 its so out of context and beautiful

As a pharmacist, I love his words!! 🥰 Meds can help, but diet and exercise can be game changers…. with fewer side effects. 👍🏼

I really like Dr Mike he always tries to promote the best health solutions to problems. Also he is literally saying having a healthier style of life improves more than taking pills... I'd rethink my life with just that😅 and ofc not in all cases but it's still a better starter..

As a T2 diabetic, diet changes + trulicity brought my a1c down to 6.1, but I would never have been able to make/sustain big enough changes without the trulicity. The appetite suppression was a major factor. Symptom lists include things like excessive thirst, slow healing, weight changes - but they don't say how you can have a solid, nutritionally balanced, satitiating meal only to feel pregnancy-level hungry an hour later. Nobody can sustain the necessary diet changes if they constantly feel hangry.

I swear to God, that one blood vessel is supplying all of the blood to his brain single-handedly 😂

I really liked this episode, both of them are very intelligent.

Its not just blood pressure. Speaking personally, working out and cleaning up my diet by about 60% basically got rid of my asthma, epilepsy, lowered my paranoia, eliminiated my obesity (which had a dozen other things cone with it), lowered my ADHD, etc.

Genetics also plays a strong role in hypertension. I've had patients that ran marathons, ate clean and were not overweight who have high BP. I think it's important to acknowledge that it isn't always about lifestyle.

I really appreciate Dr. Mike’s wholistic approach to medicine. He doesn’t want to cover one topic, he wants to cover the broad range of topics that relate to the specific one being discussed. It’s refreshing.

Tirzepatide has really transformed my life. I went from diets and exercise NEVER working, to not having to lift a finger to see some improvement. Now my confidence shines through and I have the mental strength to keep exercising when it doesn’t show results and the energy to try new foods and go out of my comfort zone to try and be healthier without the crazy diets. It has even made my levels show NO worries for diabetes even though my mom and grandmother are both diabetic.

I don’t think it’s for everyone - especially those that aren’t medically overweight or don’t have another medical condition that requires it - but I’m so thankful for it. I hope insurance will cover it for the many things it’s helping.

For those that don’t know:
There’s studies that show aside from treating diabetes and weight loss, it can possibly help PCOS (which I have), and there’s some interesting findings on it helping fertility.

I love medicine and its incredible advancements. It’s amazing to be here to see things like this.

The biggest downside to drugs like ozempic and mounjaro are that there are people taking it who don't even need it. Yeah, it can be said about basically every drug, but there's a good amount of people taking them just because one of the side effects is weight loss.

And, unfortunately, that lowers the availability of it to people who actually need it

Metformin helped me keep my numbers, but my A1C was 12.75 and now it’s 5.25 thanks to adding vegetables to my diet and reducing sugary drinks.

I worked in a diabetes clinic and the issue is that many people don’t WANT to change their habits and rarely CANNOT change their habits. And at the same time they complain about being on lots of meds, and when you tell them it’s either the meds, death, or diet, the pills is the easier option for most. But I do enjoy the success stories. I’m just very weary when people complain about taking meds when I know the doctor told them for months the change their diet and/ or exercise before prescribing a pill…

I'm thin, lean, have a healthy diet, and have high blood pressure. Diet and exercise change lowered it from 145/100 to 138/90 but ultimately still will require medication

Dr. Mike is right about the Ozempics and like medicines. Insurance won’t cover them unless you have something extreme going on, I have a health care issue that could be helped by semi/glutides-Dr prescribed them for me, but insurance won’t cover, so I ditched that. Then I was referred to meeting with a dietitian but insurance would cover that- so I will have to pay out of pocket. It’s cheaper than the medicine, and I need help, so hopefully that route will be beneficial.
