Film Stock Simplified

If like me, you grew up around digital, film stock can be quite intimidating, figuring out what size you want, whether you need daylight or tungsten, it's almost overwhelming when you start learning about it, which is why in today's video, I'm simplifying it.

I'll look at the different sizes of film stock ranging from 8mm all the way to IMAX, as well as looking at the difference between Daylight and Tungsten.

As always if you have a recommendation for an analysis, let me know below!

Timeline:
00:00 Introduction
00:48 Sizes
03:02 Tungsten vs. Daylight
04:45 Conclusion

Music:
Deep Space - Audionautix
1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky
Fur Elise - Beethoven

Would love a súper in depth, kind of “all you need to know about celluloid” video, in which you go into very technical and in-depth aspects of shooting film but still trying to be as approachable as possible. 😌

3:24 Isn’t it the other way around? Tungsten lights are warm (3200/3300K) and daylight is cool (5500/5600K). The stocks try to balance that. Therefore tungsten balanced film stock is cool and daylight balanced film stock is warmer. That’s why you need an 85 conversion filter if you want to shoot tungsten balanced in daylight scenarios

Awesome video. Yes, it would be great to see a more detailed and technically in depth video about film sizes, perforations, aspect ratios, etc…

You and In Depth Cine uploaded in the same day, so good day! :D I think an interesting video would be how the color of films shot on film is achieved. Like say two films are shot on the same stock, one is really drab and dreary and the other is real colorful and vibrant, how was that achieved before DI suites were available?

Interesting that some directors prefer Film rather than digital.
