As a black person who grew up watching the original series, as a kid, and really enjoyed it, here it was decades later I hear they're going to do a animated remake called Velma. Imagine my disappointment, oh wait you don't have to it's all over the internet., How people feel about this project HBO should be ashamed of themselves, for basically green-lighting a dumpster fire that the series star insisted we watch

People are being too hard on Mindy Kaling, she deserves more credit more than the flack she's been getting. She had a vision and she went for it, in a media medium that is really finicky, touch and go. She put her heart and soul into this show and in just two episodes, she managed to do what no one has been able to in almost 45 years - make people appreciate Scrappy Doo and realize he's not the worst thing to ever happen to Scooby IP. That takes serious talent.

It's just Mindy Kaling inserting herself into a cartoon with her hanging out with some of the Scooby Doo crowd. Just like all of her other shows, it's all about her and her only. She must have some significant dirt on someone in Hollywood to get getting these opportunities to ego trip on herself.

From the two episodes of this show I've seen I'm willing to go out on a limb and say this show is basically the "I am not Starfire" of the Scooby Doo franchise.

For context "I am not Starfire" is one of the most hated comic books of all time mostly because it's basically a really shit self insert fanfiction.

The creator self inserts herself as the main character Mandy into the teen titans universe and Mandy (much like this version of Velma) is legitimately one of the most insufferable character's I've ever seen in any medium seriously she has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Tldr: don't watch Velma or read "I am not Starfire" there both shit and bring shame to the ip's there associated with.
