Velma (2023) is a spin-off about Velma from the Scooby-Doo franchise, and will likely be remembered in infamy as a horribly misguided attempt at giving a character an origin story.

You can have a Scooby-Doo with more mature themes and still make it kid friendly. The movie Zombie Island did just that. Actual corpses, human sacrifice, deeper characters, an actually surprising twist at the end and a good mystery to go along with it. We could have had something like that

I liked the part when Shaggy said "it's shagging time" and shagged everyone in the room. Classic Scooby-Doo humor. 10/10

Why do the background characters have better designs than the main characters?
They should have just done a story about a team of detectives that are a rival team of the original scooby doo gang that is just edgier and angry that the other gang is more recognizable and gets more gigs than them, would be predictable but better than whatever the hell this is and that way you could keep scooby doo for kids and whatever the hell you want to call this, for adults since the characters do not even share a personality with their former self.

3:34 It's funny you say that because I was told that this show started off with original characters, but when it was pitched to the company they flat out rejected it. So they decided to change it to Scooby-Doo characters so it would have a big name attached to it, and the company accepted it. I feel like this is just a rumor, but if this is true then all I can say is wow, that's just sad.

I love how everyone has wildly different opinions on HOW they ruined this show, but everyone agrees that Fred got the worst of the treatment, Shaggy had the best/funniest line, and the fact that they weren’t able to use scooby doo himself says a lot.

Although supposedly it was SUPPOSED to be an original show but the network said it wouldn’t hit it off and demanded it take on an existing IP for reach.

Growing up with the old scooby doo show I really wanted to watch this with my kids... After seeing the trailer I decided that might not be the greatest idea... Yesterday I had some time alone so I decided to give it a shot.... I lasted 7 min before I had to opt out.... The cringe was too strong in this one!

I agree with everything in this review. Tbh I don't really care about the diverse reimagining of the cast, nor do I really care about the animation. A vast majority of the problems this show has is in the story and writing.

I think the writing team watched Mystery Inc and took the Velma vs Scooby beef a little too seriously. How is this part of the Scooby Doo universe, without Scooby Doo?? He's the CENTER character. I agree they should have just gave them original names and designs. There was no need for this dumpster fire show to be associated with Scooby Doo at all.
