Former atheist here, we certainly can be saved.
Sadly in my case I was raised better, but I was persuaded by the atheist arguments.
The only thing that turned me around was how crazy things are getting.
The worse things get, the harder it becomes to deny the existence of not just evil, but the Devil himself.
I don't want to be a child of wrath, I want to be a child of God.
Working on becoming a catholic now.
I believe there's hope for all atheists.

I'm glad I reverted back from atheism. Still falling short by not attending the sacraments enough and complaining way too much while giving too little praise to Our Lord.

Yours guys over Pints With Aquinas, as well as Aquinas 101 helped me through this reversion, so thank you very much!

Thank you, Fr Pine, for this reminder. Because of my volunteer work at Church, each week God places souls under my care and He opens the doors of their hearts to hear what I have to say to them. It is a sobering thought. I have a grave duty towards these souls.

Please pray for me that at such times, the Holy Spirit will shed His Light on my mind and open my lips to proclaim the Gospel of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I'm inadequate but I know that it is not I who converts hearts but it is The Holy Spirit Who does it through my efforts.

Lord, help me to evangelize those whom You put in my path. At the end of my life on earth grant that, by Your grace, I may have produced a hundredfold for Your harvest. And hear those wonderful words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant... come and share the joy of your master."

So I pretty much lived my life as a Christian from as far as I remember to about 5 years ago when I'd claimed I was atheist because I felt like my prayers had been ignored. A lot was going on in my life, I felt abandoned and sense I felt that God was ignoring me as well not only did my faith in him take a trip out the window but also did my faith in people in general. Well I had a revelation a few weeks ago and am trying to find my father again. I've noticed I'm not angry anymore and I feel more at peace, but I fear I've already punched my ticket to the lake of fire.

The thing that had led me to God is not necessarily that I found some proof that he was real (although I've found that too) but really just realizing that the Christian lifestyle leads to a healthy body and mind and allows one to understand their role in the universe and the meaning of life. Christianity is really a cosmic enlightenment.

I was an atheist for 54 years. Raised that way. And born & raised as a Jew, too. People prayed for me. Protestants. Now I'm Catholic. Prayer is efficacious .

Only God knows no man can answer this question, I think those who assume they know the will and mind of God need not occupy this position. I certainly hope that all souls including my pathetic and worthless sinful soul can be saved.

The first chapter of the Golden Legend talks about how those who never believed aren't even judged, just thrown right into Hell at the Last Judgment, without being given the time of day because they never gave the Lord the time.

Wow, that was very detailed and concise! Bravo!

The biggest question I have is, isn't it possible to have faith in Christ as Logos without necessarily recognizing that should entail religious faith in Jesus -- in other words, that the "Anonymous Christian" is such because he believes in an "anonymous" Christ?

It's plausible to imagine a situation where someone's only experience of Christianity is of the interpretation where the Father's bloodlust can only be satisfied by Jesus letting the Father vent all His wrath on Himself instead of us, and their legitimate desire for truth, beauty, and justice is so offended by the falsity, ugliness, and unfairness of the interpretation that they reject Christianity outright.

To the extent that such a person could be saved, that would still be based in their positive desire for God as truth, beauty, and justice rather than in their ignorance -- the ignorance would just explain why their desire for truth, beauty, and justice actually made propositional belief in God more difficult under those specific circumstances.

Atheists can be saved by repenting, just like the rest of us.
