For those wondering, Mach 14.26 is 10941.258mph or 17608.248kph

Speed of sound also effected by density which is why the Mach goes down the lower you get even though you’re going faster, knots would be a better gauge

Kindof curious on how the temperature at the edge of space can effect the airspeed

traveling at the speed of sound was so yesterday. Light speed is the future

When someone says Mach is X speed, that's at sea level at average temperature, at average air pressure. Mach has nothing to do with speed and everything to do with pressure. Temperature, dewpoint, altitude, and ambient pressure all change the speed at which supersonic is achieved. The higher you go, the less air, thus less pressure, so 700mph might not mach on the deck, but it could be mach 2 up high. The impressive part of mach is surviving the speed, not necessarily moving fast. The challenge comes with balancing lower speeds required for mach with less air for lift and combustion.

Say at 400km 10mph might be mach, but you are not only moving slow, but you're taking the outside of the track, so you have to fly faster to even reach significant ground coverage

I’ve done this before too, it was crazy

Plane designers speeding up planes: bigger engine?
This guy: *changes speed of sound*

The Darkstar with Pulse Laser is a good slap. (Best aircraft from Ace Combat 7.)

The problem is that the value of mach changes depending on your altitude, as it is the speed of sound, and sound travels slower in less dense atmospheres as it needs air particles to transfer sound. As you dive, the higher-density air would also slow you down from resistance. If you dove down in an aircraft from such a high altitude (imagine that the air resistance is equal in all altitudes in this instance), then although you might speed up or maintain speed, the Mach speed of your aircraft would reduce because mach value reduces.

The Mach number is correlated to air density. So the thinner the air at altitude, the higher the Mach number

that’s so cool darkstar is my favorite fiction jet

And thats why it makes more sense to measure the TAS than mach for the top speed of a plane

Its dependant on air density (hence why temperature affects it) in this case, density will reduce the mach reading based on altitude

Respect to the pilot and the camera man

i got up to like mach 19 by turning off the scramjets at mach 10 when i wanted to land, my pilot passed out so many times and i ended up flying 150 miles past my destination because of it (Lisbon, flying from New York)

The lower the altitude the dense atmosphere thickens and will actually slow you down

It because the further down you go the more air resistance you encounter there fore you are going to slow down due to the drag the dark star produces
