Mike Hawthorn raced for years until Peter Collins (his teammate and best friend) died. He retired at the end of that season then got into a rave on the public roads with a team boss. He lost control and hit a tree and crashed into a ditch at top speed, killing him.
Not all F1 drivers die on the track but at least he was doing what he enjoyed most and as were many others and all who died on track.
Racers are never dead just one lap ahead of the rest of us. ❤😢

What about Gilles Villeneuve?

died trying to beat his race partner (Didier) lap time. He hit Jochen mass from behind and the car flew up and started doing backflips, throwing Gilles head first into a fence.
