I was 100% sure Kubica was dead. His feet were literally sticking out of the hole in front of the car. Him winning Canada the year after is the most beautiful poetic justice in F1 I've ever seen.

Even after the major fireball in 2020 Bahrain, Romain Grosjean said this : "Jules Bianchi saved my life, thanks to the halo. And I was absolutely against its introduction - what an idiot I was! Jules saved my life and the lives of other drivers, and I will always be grateful to him for that." I'm so glad that F1 motorsport is completely safe and innocuos after the safety improvement and car regulations.

the fact that Grosjean got out because he thought of his kids, incredible. The Phoenix

As tragic as Bianchi's death was, caused by a crash that never should've happened, it's scary to think that if it never happened, the Halo might've never been introduced which would've meant several drivers would be dead by now, including Leclerc, Hamilton, Verstappen, Zhou, and Grosjean. Bianchi truly saved those drivers

At first when I saw you'd included Jules in this video, I was hesitant, but you did it with grace and in a manner that amplifies his legacy and the impact he's had on this sport forever.

Every time I see Suzuka 2014, I get shivers down my spine. I remember watching that race live and waiting for every little news update. The news of his passing was a punch in the gut. VSC and halo would probably have saved him, but of course these changes are always coming in too late.

Same for Bahrain 2020. Those 27 seconds before he got out felt like an eternity. Insane the Haas had split in half, but it only showed how much the safety has improved in F1.

Let's hope we never have another Suzuka 2014

Bianchi. We all know that’s the worst of the century. And it never should’ve happened. Safety car should’be been deployed after Sutil crashed… but it’s the FIA, and they don’t care. They still haven’t learned, and they never will do.
Grosjean’s was the worst that wasn’t fatal. Me and my Nan were in utter disbelief and horror seeing that crash… and equal relief when we saw him climb out.

I still remember watching the grosjean accident on TV with my family, first words were "did I just watch someone die on live television?", amazing that he walked out of that crash relatively unscathed

completely scary it seems unreal to believe these people are at like 200 mph in those thin carbon fibre caskets seeing them survive those crashes is truly nothing short of a miracle

Rolls actually save lives actually, it gradually slows the body inducing less gs

Another massive one you missed was Jacques Villeneuve at Australia, 2001.

That was a monumental accident that didn't have the happy ending everyone hoped for.

But I'm glad we've come such a long way from the days of old. We're so unbelievably lucky that safety is put first.

Nuts how Grosjean got his injuries from jumping over the barrier, not in the crash. The barrier was a blistering 450 degrees and he burned his hands and foot grabbing it from instinct jumping over.

Let's not forget those who said, the Halo would ruin the racing and would take the soul out of F1. I quote: "The drivers know about the danger, they don't need the Halo"

I'm so glad we have this system and that so much effort is put in the safety of this sport

Grosjean's crash is the most undeniable proof that the safety measures put in place work and are worth it. Everything went wrong. He had a heavy crash nearly head-on into a barrier that was never meant to take on a head-on collision. And then a full tank of fuel ruptured and caught on fire. In 1990, he'd be dead 4 or 5 different ways. In 2000, he'd be dead from the head/neck injury, the barrier, and being unconscious in the fire. 2010, he might survive if the barrier didn't KO him. 2020: halo protects his head, crash structure protects his legs and arms, HANS protects his neck and kept him conscious, fire suit kept him from getting life-ending burns, and marshals are there fighting the fire in seconds. It's not just that he walked out. It's that there was still margin for him to survive despite so much going wrong.
Two notes: Bianchi's crash is why Gasly was penalized and was still so livid at the organizers in Suzuka a few years ago; they had a recovery vehicle literally on track in the wet while he was catching up to the pack. In his shoes, I probably would have sued the track for it, then donated the money to a safety system that tracks recovery vehicles and alerts everyone if recovery vehicles are on track.
And Spa needs to change. Radillon exists in such a way that cars bounce off of the walls back towards the track, on a corner where drivers commit un-sighted and the cars go light. We've seen so many horrific accidents where a car uses its entire crash structure in a wall impact, and then takes a second hard impact from another car. It's only a matter of time before someone dies there.

The fact that only 1 of this crashes was fatal is the greatest testimony of how safe F1 cars have become

16:02 when we saw that huge fireball, we all believed that this is not going to be so good, and that maybe we will witness a very bad situation... But thankfully, everything went very well, and of course Romain survived after that very serious crash with some burns 🙏🏻🙏🏻
