Chip War, the Race for Semiconductor Supremacy | Full Documentary (2023)

A new world order is taking shape before our eyes. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the extent to which great powers depend on strategic products. The persistent shortage of semiconductors—essential to our daily lives—is reshaping geopolitical relations, fueling inflation and increasing tensions between the U.S. and China.

It is estimated that 10 million cars worldwide were not produced in 2021 due to a lack of available semiconductors. From our computers to our toasters, from our tablets to our refrigerators, microprocessors, or semiconductors, power all our daily devices. They hold national strategic importance, supporting all advanced military and civilian technologies. Yet, while demand for both the quantity and quality of semiconductors has been growing, the number of places producing them has been shrinking. Only a few countries possess the specialized knowledge and capability to produce cutting-edge chips, with 63% of all chips manufactured in Taiwan.

That this one island, which is already on the frontline of a superpower struggle between the U.S. and China, dominates production means that the world’s economies are dependent on the stability of Taiwan. So what can be done to secure microprocessors? And how is the battle for semiconductors already affecting our daily lives?

Very stupid comment about why China wants to reunify Taiwan.
TSMC is NOT the reason.. not at any slightest excuse to reunify with Taiwan.

The most important thing is the PEOPLE, the engineers, not how many factories you have now.

No way western Europeans, Americans, Canadians, Australians or New Zealanders will accept TSMC Taiwan working conditions. Not a value judgement

It's not just building foundries. You got to have the full supply chain. From mining the rare earth's to refining the stuff before you can create the chip. Guess who controls the refined rare earth's.

Translations to English from Chinese and French are off. Some French translations exaggerated. Some Chinese translations missing the point entirely.

Three microchips plants in Arizona in 20 years?! By then we will be approaching a technological singularity and that kind of manufacturing will be like stone age technology in comparison. Ray Kurzweil has explained how even experts tend to underestimate exponential progress in the long run.

Absolute majority is BS if you see the latest election results. This is only one part of the issues which had no bearings in Taiwan going back to the motherland.

If you guys are happily supporting the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands belong to the British, this far from the same with China Taiwan situation.

The UN, and the US openly acknowledged that Taiwan is part of China and there is only one China, is sufficed.

There are many other countries that were illegally occupied including those by the US.

And the US wasn’t even a country then but a colonial empires, robbed from the original Indians people.

Another foolish Taiwan of Chinese stock chooses to spread lies about China interests in taking over the Taiwan chips industry to lead in chips dominance with statement parroting the US lines.

He hides the truths of China being targetted and denied access to not only the chips supply but also on the chips producing equipments that threatens China venerability. Another word, to choke or strangle China chips needs.

How evil can that be without taking into consideration of the 1.4 Billion Chinese people.

For that, this Taiwan official who spreads these lies is not only a punishable offence as a traitor to China but also, to the Chinese people whose livelihoods and lives are at stake.

Any country being pushed by the US will expect to react in certain way and with some others, the consequences could be much worse and dangerous than the Chinese.

Out of all the countries, inventors, government funding in the whole world, it’s so fascinating why there’s a monopoly of this product by only one company in one country. 😮

Build chip factories in US & Europe will not solve the problem. The salaries in western countries are so high. The workers in the west have no capacity to compete with Asians in term of IQ & work ethics. They should move factories to an emerging Southeast Asian Nations like Indonesia. Indonesia has enormous labour force, cheap & growing. Indonesia has abundant natural resources to support chip manufacturing from downstream to upstream level there. Emerging Infrastructure projects & easy bussiness policy.
