As a Native Ohioan, there is so many things that are wrong or are missing in this video. I know he only had little time to cover the thousands of years of history of Ohio. To start with the Paleo-Indians, he talks of the Mound Builders, but shows a picture of Chahokia (the Earthen Pyramid located in Illinois). He should have showed Serpent Mound which is in Ohio. Trains arrived in Ohio in 1836, So the Indians attacking a cargo train in the 1790's is impossible. Marietta, was the first established settlement in Ohio in 1788 (before that the French and English only built trading posts in Ohio, no permanent settlements). The B & O railroad did not start in Ohio and go east to Baltimore, It was built the other way round from the East coast into Ohio. Jumping ahead, Benjamin Goodrich founded Goodrich Tires, not Goodyear. Missing Major Industries from the list are Steel from Cleveland to Youngstown and on to Pittsburgh, Furniture In Dayton, Cincinnati and the Shakers in Cleveland area, Auto industry throughout Ohio, Glass and Pottery from the Steubenville area. Ohio is the Birthplace of Aviation (sorry North Carolina, the first flight couldn't have occurred without Orville and Wilbur Wright building the plane in Ohio) True that 8 Presidents were elected from Ohio, but only 7 were born in Ohio. William Henry Harrison was born in Virginia. Finally, the Kent State Massacre was the culmination of several days of violence in Kent. It was Governor Rhodes who called out the National Guard at the request of the Mayor. Mayors can not call out the National Guard, only the Governor has that authority.

A big gaping omission is that Ohio is the home of aviation.

Alot of this is not true. I was born in Chillecothe, and I noticed that Tecumseh or his brother The Prophet were't mentioned once even though they were an important factor in the history of Ohio.

I do not know where this narrative came from but as a historian from North West Ohio this is not close to the facts.

Auglaize county Ohio, specifically Wapakoneta Ohio is where Neil Armstrong lived aswell. South of Lima's (pronounced in this case as Lime-ah) mighty tank, locomotive, and machinery manufacturing might we take pride in that. The Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum is visible right along side of I-75 (exit 111 for those who want to visit). Lima is also the birthplace of several famous locomotives, the Southern Pacific 4449 (based out of Bend, Oregon), and the Shay were built here along side Sherman's, and subsequent tank models to this day.

Great vid, im born and raised in the Ohio Valley right by WV and PA. I feel my area and state is so underrated, much better in Appalachia part than the flat corn part, our parks are underrated and incredible. Ohio really was the first frontier and many forget this.

That refinery of Rockefeller's is still there, but now it goes by a different name. Lima, Ohio locals refer to it as Husky, after the company who owned up until 2022. It is now operated by Cenovus, who owns Husky and its properties.

Does anybody know anything about the Great Black Swamp?
Apparently, it took up the western half of the state, but people traveled through it like it was nothing.

The story of Mary in present day Mingo Junction, Ohio is interesting. First white family in the area, her family is killed my natives, and then she is captured and made to join the tribe. She was 13, and 20 years later the French and English come to their fort and attempt to rescue Mary, she is glad to see her kind but declines, and lives out her days until her 90s with her tribe.

Benjamin Goodrich founded Goodrich Tire, not Goodyear. Goodyear was founded by Frank and Charles Sieberling, and named the company after Charles Goodyear, who discovered the process of vulcanization.

I lived in Cleveland in the early 1970s. The only bragging rights that I vaguely recall are "Well, at least we're not Detroit ". Actually, Dad was a surgeon at Cleveland Clinic, highly respected worldwide. But as a kid arriving from places much worse, I thought Cleveland was amazing! I know nothing about the rest of Ohio.

Chillicothe was the 1st and 3rd capital of Ohio. Also home to the Hopewell Indian Mounds and Tecumseh. I am a lifelong resident and appreciate the information although it is missing some important events.

County and municipal boundaries in Ohio and the other Northwest Territory states tend to be much more geometric than the original colonies. This is because, before the Revolution, parties of surveyors explored the territory and laid out these boundaries. One of those surveyors was a guy named George Washington.

Do you carry any of the books of George C. Crout? He was my 5th grade principal. He had a regular column in the Middletown Journal. When I was 20 I helped him do some research at MU-M library.

7:18 I’m hoping that he mentions Adams Mills, my house was built in 1862 and the canal connected the mills with the world.

How come these history of ohio videos never mention Chillicothe? You would think that the place where Ohio Congress first met would be on the list of important things about the history of Ohio.

I mean the French lived here before the English and even the Bohemians had "permanent" settlements mixed with Natives pre Revolution. I have been to some of those settlers headstones.
