I've used graphite (just crushed up pencil lead) on the nut for years. It's always worked well for me.

Very good info. I setup all my guitars and have been doimg so several decades being that I have played since 1977.. I use a graphite nut and locking gotoh tuners that are staggered so I dont have to have strkng trees. I make sire the strings are stretched all the way along the string and run my fingers all up ajd down the string pulling on the string and I even push against the string past the nut and at the bridge. I have a nice gotoh brodge and I deck my trems and dive only basically and I have the springs tight enough it snaps back and I never have a problem. Floyds to me are even easier. I am going to go to a non fime tuner floyd I think on my custom strat I buillt as descrined above woth maple neck and fretboard with 22 xjumbo stainless frets which are so nice to bend on and no more fret jobs.
I play a lot of 80s type high gain and use EMGs for their quietness and no hum or buzz and no getting shocked because I am not the ground. Plus I use a wireless because I have been shocked a couple times back in the day abd that is so scary.
